When I moved into my apartment at beginning of the Fall semester I was walking around the hill and this nasty, beat up old car pulled up next to me and I heard "Hey man, can you tell me where Dougherty is?" I turned around to see it be Maymon.

Won't lie, thought he was a complete idiot after last seasons play and called him Steven Pearl 2.0, and after this interaction I saw no hope in the guy.

Can honestly say I feel bad for jumping the gun on this guy. Completely on board for having him represent the University and can't wait to see him and Stokes play the posts for the remainder/entirety of next season.

Hats off to Maymon. One helluva worker and player. :hi:

He's got the remainder of this year and one more year to develop under Cuonzo. Any chance of Maymon playing in the NBA, or is he just not tall enough?

Don't know if he's got the mid-range game for a 3 or 4 to stick in the NBA, but he definitely will get some looks because of his body, quicks and tenacity imo!

ccm said recently he really wants maymon to improve his mid range game, and develop a top of the key 3 point shot, a la chism.

if he is succesful in developing that shot, then he will definitely get some serious looks IMO. i think either way, as long as he matches or betters the success he had this season, he will get brought in by some teams and given the opportunity. he is just too strong and physical to be completely ignored, great defender and rebounder, im not gonna say he's rodman, but he could be that kind of playing style. not much offense, just kind of put backs around the room, but a great defender and rebounder.

He reminds me of DeJuan Blair, and I think Blair is an inch shorter.

good comparison.

according to their respective info pages both are 6'7" and right at 270lbs or so each.

stat comparison

DB 27.2mpg JM 27.2mpg
DB 15.7ppg JM12.04ppg
DB 59.3fg% JM 54.2fg%
DB 12.3rpg JM 8.04rpb
DB 1.2apg JM 1.1apg

very comparable numbers from these guys, obviously blair was a bit better, but definitely comparable. look for maymon to improve his offensive game and numbers to look similar next year.

he is really impressive this year,,,,,dominated inside today!!

Coach Martin has transformed Maymom into an outstanding basketball player. After last year's play, I did not think he could play in the
sec. Now, he should be ALL SEC. What a change in his play and in my mind.

In all honesty, I think S. Pearl played over Maymon because Maymon liked to float outside of the paint a little too much. He fancied himself a 3 while in reality, his skill set is suited for the 4. It's the reason he transferred from Marquette. Buzz Williams wanted to make him a post player and Maymon and his father didn't like the idea.

Bruce Pearl knew he could trust Steven Pearl to play within the system and do what he was asked. Maymon seemed to want to make his mark every time he touched the ball last year offensively, shooting the ball on nearly every possession that went through him in his limited playing time. I also think the former staff was poor at developing post players. Martin and his staff seem to have done a great job in developing the post players in their small amount of time, and I think Maymon has done a better job of buying into Martins system and playing within it.

Let's not give all the credit to coaching. Fact is Maymon has worked his ass off, and he more than anyone is responsible for his improvement

Cool story Hal. Nothing worse then a college kid driving a beater asking for directions. He should have have been kicked out of school along time ago.
