How the coaching search is all the sudden going to be different this time? Everyone says Dooley took over a mess (blah blah blah) and no one wanted to take the job therefore we are left giving 4-8 Dooley a 5M buyout. I get that but how is it going to be any different this time around? I mean would you really want to come here to coach especially with our front office woes? We are most likely losing at least two of out of the big three on offense and probably some of the most talented offensive linemen. You could also argue our defense isn't much better than 3 years ago (yeah I know we have slightly better depth) with Randolph and maggitt not coming back until mid year next year. And nothing but brutal schedules to come with A&M coming on strong, Oregon next yr, and ark/auburn both looking for new coaches as well. I want Dooley out, I am just concerned we are going to be stuck rolling the dice again for the next few years

Hamilton is gone, so our chances of screwing the pooch on the next hire have decreased dramatically.

Timing....Dools was hired about 10 days befor national signing day. Our new caoch, will hopefully be in place by early December and will have two monthes to work the recruiting trail.

Money makes people not worry as much about current talent and office woes. You PAY TOP DOLLAR and see a return hopefully in 2-3 seasons.

The bad thing is...it's not going to be much different. If we want someone good it'll mean coming from some team with a good record which means they're probably going to a bowl which means they're going to come in at the 11th hour and be behind recruiting...again.

Last year would have been a much better time to look for a new coach. There would not have been the competition and we had a better team coming back. The problem was, people could not make themselves see the obvious, this team was not improving. Obviously, we should have replaced him with Sumlin.

Timing of the hire is night and day difference.

And the state of the roster is night and day difference even if the draft takes the 3 or 4 on offense.

I really don't see huge money being thrown at any coach unfortunately.

The economy is pathetic and getting worse and everyone knows their taxes are going up, up, up over the next 4 years.

Ticket sales will probably go down because money is so tight unless we get a huge homerun hire and I doubt that's going to happen so we're probably be in a mode of get whoever we can and try to maintain a solid profit for the next 4 years.

VFL...GBO!!!

This hire has the POTENTIAL to be different for several reasons.....
1. different person doing the search and hiring (I doubt a search firm is hired this time).
2. More willingness to spend the money we don't have to make money.
3. More UT alum involved this time (enough time has passedwith Fulmer's departure),
4. More appealing job..... timing better, money better, no NCAA over our heads, and a somewhat better roster.'

GO VOLS!!!

There is some indication, not certainty, that for the first time in the history of UT football the powers that be are ready to pay what it takes rather than going on the cheap.

... that is, if Dave Hart will get off his duff and gitter done!

Our new coach will want to take his current team to their bowl game in late December or early January. New coach won't be here until after the holidays.

Charlie Strong, Sonny Dykes, already have their teams headed to a bowl game.

Gruden, Petrino & Kirby Smart will be available almost immediately though.

we are going to get better as soon as we hire a new coach. I can't imagen anyone coaching worst than dooley.

1) Timing. Nov/Dec good for hiring a coach. Jan not good.

2) Ath Director. Hart > Hamilton

3) Fanbase/boosters. Everyone that matters wants Dooley gone. This was not true in '08.

Many things are different IMO. The team is in much better shape depth wise. Kiffin ran off quite a few players which destroyed depth. The depth has been rebuilt some, granted the draft will take some of it. We were facing NCAA sanctions and no one really knew what would happen. Now we are just on probation for a few more years but nothing crippling like could have came before. The timing was awful last time and everything had to be rushed. Hamilton was doing his best to screw things up as well. The defense isn't a huge issue if we could get a proven coordinator who adjusts to his players instead of having his players adjust to his scheme. We will get a good coach.

Gruden isn't available. He will be headed to Philly to coach the Eagles. Strong isn't available he is going to Arkansas. Smart we don't want.

In retrospect Vols should have hired Schiano instead of Dooley. That's the type of coach we needed after Kiffin left.

I have to agree except I am still not sure with the right coordinator we could be good under Dooley. Another point to think about is everyone says that with Dooley the hire was fast because of signing day. What about Kiffin? Last but not least who wants to Coach at a place where the fans have not real sense of what it takes to win? I realize the last two losses was inexcusable however, we lost to Alabama and everyone was ready for us to fire the Coach. This effects recruiting and I don't care how good of a coach you are the Xs and Os are no good without Freds and Joes!:peace2:

Recruiting should be an afterthought this time around. Not in ESPN's top 25 and I haven't looked at Rivals lately.

Finding 3 star replacement players with offers from MAC schools and UTC shouldn't be too difficult for a new coach.

The coach is only as good as the coaching search! Two day coaching search equals two bit head coach/Dooley.

the team has more talent than when dooley came in...we had 20 freshmen playing and walk ons and no real talent...not to mention kiffin's class that we have no one left from...the situation is a good one to come in to

What coach in the SEC can keep his job losing to their biggest rival? Bill Curry was 10-1 in the SEC his last season before he was forced out. That one lose was to Auburn.
