Can we beat Vandy?

volnation is having a meltdown. The open date is huge. too many guys on our football team have played a crazy amount of snaps. as long as we take care of the ball we win the Vandy game. they have had the luxury of catching teams at bad times. if we had played Florida today and Vandy had played Auburn you people would be saying we're gonna beat the hell out of them.

We scored 17 on their D we had one score on defense. That being said I think we win against Vandy. Our offense can move the ball with Dobbs getting an extra week of reps with the first team I think we will see improvement there and our defense has been beaten up pretty bad these last few weeks they will benefit from some much needed rest. Have no fear Volnation better days are coming.

four weeks ago , you people thought cbj was the second coming of jesus . in the last 3 games we played the # 1,9 and 8 teams in the nation . if 6-6 was expected than i dont see all the neg. statements . can people please , please give the man time to get one recuiting class in before we run him out on a rail. jmo

Sorry but the transitive property doesn't work if CFB. Just because Vandy beat UF and we didn't doesn't mean anything. If anyone actually thinks that Vandy has anywhere near the offensive power that Auburn has, they are nuts. Auburn is leagues better offensively and defensively.

Vandy will be favored for sure( what a bitter pill) . I am pretty sure that will be the first time that has happened in a least 50 years. WE can win the game, but I don't think we will based on the way both teams are currently playing. Vandy winning here is a nightmare that Butch and Gang will have a hard time living down. If a coach can motivate our O and D lines, we will win. If not, we wont . Player for player, Vandy probably has an edge. Ten years ago, no one would have believed that possible. As if we are in quicksand, the more we struggle the deeper we sink . Someone help us.

There's some truth to this, but here's my problem and I'd be willing to be many others as well. It's not that we got beat by those teams, because I think most reasonable people expected it, it's that we flat out no-showed both the Bama and Mizzou games. The Bama game was over in the 1st quarter. Even Dooley's teams would show up and compete for a half, but for some reason even that didn't happen this year. It's like they got their "signature win" and decided to pack it in for the season. I'm certainly not trying to say we need to get rid of Butch, but I'm also not going to act like I haven't seen a few things that worry me.

Vandy beat florida due to turnovers ..3 drives for tds 22 yards all under 22 yards. Fla paper graded gators f in all categories for the game..vandy beat ga and fla after many injuries..last time vandy beat tenn 2 straight times 1927....

Good point. Flarduh had 4 turnovers; possessed the ball longer (wasn't a huge difference); had 344 total yards to Peebody's 183; and, as you eluded to 8-9 starters out.

Peebody is not Auburn. Huge difference in talent. If we DON'T spot them 21 points on ST; put the same dang defense on the field that played USCjr; we should be able to beat these pukes at home. :)

Can we beat them? Yeah.....but this team is really unpredictable right now. I for one do not put much stock in Vandy's win over Florida. The Gators are a train wreck right now, and have thrown in the towel. Fans are calling for Muschamp's head, making a circus out of the entire program. Sound familiar? DON'T BE A GATOR!!!
With an extra week to prepare, we have a shot. Vandy is not Auburn.

They vols can win but they probably won't. Vandy is playing much better ball right now.

The way we looked yesterday we couldn't beat Dyersburg State. The problem with yesterday was not that we lost but that they were scoring on two plays and sometimes one. That throws a lot of doubt about this football team and where they are right now.

You mean the coach that is already 0-1 against the coach we have? You mean the coach that went 1-1 against our last coach, the worst coach in UT history, who we fired and ran out of town on a rail?

If your coach was so good, why is it when he beats other teams, they fire their coaches? (ex: UT/Auburn/NCSU and likely Florida this year).

You don't see SEC teams firing the coaches who lose to Saban do you? You don't even see SEC teams firing their coaches when they lose to Mullen.

Firings seem to only happen when an SEC team loses to Franklin.

Think about that for a minute.

The problem with this idea is that Butch Jones record against Dooley is 0-1. DOOLEY!

Can't have it both ways.

I'm seeing a lot of opinions that don't make a whole lot of sense after these bad losses.

You absolutely can have it "both" ways. Jones lost to Dooley in Neyland with an exceptional talent discrepancy (remember that was before Hunter got hurt and he lost the team).

Jones beat Franklin at a neutral site with only marginally better talent.

The problem on this site isn't data, it is contextualizing that data. And, even your own argument fails. If losing to Dooley is bad for Jones, than how can it not be bad for Franklin? Isn't Franklin 50% against Dooley?

The point is that Franklin's record against UT's current and previous coaches is 1-2. That is an inarguable win rate of 33% for Franklin against both.
