Can / will Fulmer turn it around...

you right about being in it until the 4th quarter. My bad.

I was justing thinking about being out of it being down 27-7 with less then 2 minutes to go in the game, and feeling like we were getting blown out.

Yeah, the worst feeling was the total realization that our offense and special teams were absolutely, positively PITIFUL. After a rally comeback against LSU, I think a few of us held on to some miniscule hope that we were going to "turn the corner" and get things going offensively. Watching the Georgia game, and seeing how we really stayed in it until the end, only to fail to capitalize off the fumble and then to give up points on special teams, really opened up any hitherto-orange-shaded eyes to the ineptitude that characterized 2/3 of our team.

I also thought the LSU game represented something. It had been awhile since I saw us make a gut check like that. Oh well, it's already '06. A new year and hopefully a new team.

Probably the saddest 3 minutes of the entire year was the last TD drive that we gave up in the GA game. The defense had played their guts out, but were completely demoralized.

The punt return is when all the air went out.
Ah well, water and bridges....

Come on guys it's a new yr, lets all put on our Orange tinted glasses and look forward to a brand new season! Let's pen up all the sheep, pour out all the Kool-aide and send out our "I'm sorry" cards. Besides it's basketball time before you know it March Madness will be upon us!!

Wow. I go away for a few days, and look what happens....Fulmer defenders getting trashed, Bill Battle called a good coach.....man, happy new year folks.

Oh well....after watching all the bowls up until now, a few thoughts...UGA, looked an awful like UT did the entire season...and everyone thinks Richt is a great coach....but he got out coached in every phase last night....it happens. Same w/Tubberville....all i hear at the end of the season is how good Auburn is and what a great job Tommy T has done....again, he got his too....it happens. Spurrier is spotted a 21-0 lead....and loses? whew...it happens. LSU gets the butt whippin' of a lifetime in the SEC CG and lose J Russell for the Bowl game against a stingy Miami D, and are basically left for dead...and what happens? Man, they really came back in fine form....i guess getting some time off really paid off for the tiggers.

I guess what i'm getting at is, this college football thing is fragile and all these teams that were supposedly this or that, on any given day can be the exact opposite.

The unfortunate thing for us, is that instead of one game, it was one season. it happens. hopefully the upcoming season will remind us why we all love UT football, and make 05 a distant memory. But let's not get so caught up in bashing and criticisizing our own program and each other, we have plenty of foes to do that for us....

I think in 06, Fulmer can and will turn it around. He's already made some good moves, and the recruiting will come, plus we should have some folks to re load with from the past couple of classes. WR hire is looming, and soon spring ball will be here, and we'll finally get a 1st look at some of the personnel changes we've all read about...and i'm not a sheep and i hate kool aid, i'm just an optimist.

I think we should all be fairly optimistic about next year. Let's face it, for the first time a very long time, we will be the team off the radar screen. Next season it will be all about Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Auburn, Bama and LSU....we'll be the underdog, the team that lost to Vandy....how seriously can you take that????

it'll be fun again...we will have the chance again to win some games we probably shouldn't, instead of losing games we probably shouldn't.

Go Vols.

Someone earlier gave that age old EXCUSE of we were ONLY 3, 10, 17, 20, 40, 2, 19 points away. Well, UT would be stuck with the same old inept, antique thinking coaching staff as last year & the year before & the year before & the year before.

Hey, look Memphis didn't even have their ONLY big time player & still almost beat UT at NEYLAND! How about LSU that had just intimately experienced the WORST NATURAL DISASTER in modern times, many players didn't even know if their family members survived Kitrina & obviously it greatly affected their practice schedule, living pattern & mental concentration. And what if UAB had gotten a few calls for them instead of against...and how about Ole Miss & that goofy Coach they have, hell he certainly kept it interesting up until the end. Enough of the EXCUSES! It is now time for Fulmer & Staff to get & be REAL!

Now some can make excuses, a "what if here" a "if this had happened" or that always " the all teams are equal now" excuse does not (or should not) cut it at UT!

Fact is UT had NO excuses this season except BAD COACHING. As far as that goes, that's been a problem for sometime now.

College teams are fragile alright. LSU blows out Miami and Coker blew out half his coaching staff yesterday, most of those coaches he fired had been @ Miami for most of those NC(s) they won down there. But the reality is winning championships means big money and that is what its all about and Fulmer hasn't won anything since 1998.

How the tide has turned. It used to be Fulmer supporters :dance2:

for once i agree with you...it really does feel like defending something...it's to easy to say "support". but in reality that's what it is....he doesn't need to be defended so to speak, and i think at the end of the day, CPF doesn't have a whole lot to worry about, right now. Right now, it just sucks, right now, there is still the unknown of what happens next season.

I do think it will be interesting though, what if UT comes out next season and really lites it up? what then? I already know what happens if we tank it again, but the flip side....hm. Oh well, we'll find out in about 10 months....can't wait.

For starters, I will be in a better mood.

same here...and it might make for a kinder, gentler message board.

I believe someone mentioned UGA looked awful, Tuberville did a poor job, etc.

True, but they earned their way to the bowl scape they were involved with.

Everyone & I mean everyone has a piss poor sorry a-- game. BUT NOT EVERYGAME OF THE SEASON. My friends there is the difference.

I've stated this before & I believe the UGA vs WVA game proved my point. The "spread option" is here & w UM getting half the 5 Star talent in the US (not to be taken literally) he is aligning himself up to be difficult to beat. Beyond that he appears smart enough to change his offensive philosophy.

Why is it we just seem to choke against UGA in Knoxville? It seems like if we're down even the slightest bit we just give up and hand the game over....

Anyone notice last night how almost century old JoePa looked like a battlefield commander yelling and pointing and ordering his players out there? Nothing slowed him up. He was constantly a factor on the sidelines and he was monitoring and adjusting all over the place. If a fiery 80 year old guy like that is not an inspiration to play for I don't know what is.

Maybe playing for a naked Tyra banks would be a little more inspirational?

For those than suggest I be a gator fan, WTF are you talking about?

My point was UM has changed his philosophy & offensive scheme during the season. Now wouldn't that be a shocker to see at UT.

Personally, I think scheme was about 1/10 of 1 percent of our problem. It wouldn't have mattered if we ran the Run and Shoot or the Wishbone . . . we had team culture and chemistry issues that ran much deeper.

You prepare, coach and practice hard so the games on Saturday won't be. The games on Saturday the last several years have been way to hard.

the problem with all these theories that it's the players, or execution, etc is when you look at what notre dame did this year. all of sudden notre dames players decided to start executing and have chemistry because they have a new coach?

look what stoops and carroll have done. those teams hadn't won anything for a decade at each of those schools before those guys arrived. Then they start winning nc's. i dont think that was a matter of them simply recruiting players who had chemistry, or could execute. the influence coaching has on a program is enormous. just because you dont want to point the finger at fulmer, dont downplay the role of coaching, because its huge, all you have to do is look around division 1 to see it.

This is like Groundhog Day . . .

If saying we had chemistry and culture issues doesn't implicate culpability for Fulmer, then I don't know what does.
