Can / will Fulmer turn it around...

Oklavol quit throwing out that stat. You know as well as I do that Majors' record was only about 10% of the reason that he got fired.

Mere curiosity does "Phil Fulmer a.k.a. "Football God" actually a phrase used by CPF apologists or by those who try and tarnish his coaching ability?

Excuse me sir, but how are you tarnishing a coachs record by simply stating their win-loss record over a large time period and comparing that too the 2 previous head coaches?

You would think that would clear the air about what a great coach he is, certainly over a period as large as 7 years. How can the Fulmer apologists find fault with simply stating a person win loss record?? That is somehow distorting the coaches ability?

I type out the win loss record over 7 years and all you have comment about is a nickname? Look I deleted it.

I guess no matter what Fulmer does, he shouldnt be criticized or compared to our previous head coaches?? Is that your point?

I guess that is your internet 'thing'...everytime someone doesn't agree with you about Fulmer you over-exagerate the point that everyone should love him no matter what?

It is a little maddening to not be able to even slightly disagree with the "CPF sucks" crowd even slightly without being labelled an apologist.

Disagree with that. I think if Majors had won and NC in the 2-3 years leading up to his firing he would have never been let go.

Show me in print from a reliable source that Majors was fired for other reasons then his coaching ability. Cause everything that I have read that has implied otherwise has been mostly rumor and innuendo.

You really think that if Majors had won an NC at UT he would have still been fired? I don't. They were calling for Majors head in 88 after going 0-6.

The point is, that if you go by Fulmer's win-loss record he hasnt done much since the NC in 98. His win loss record is worse then both Majors and Battle in the 7 years leading up to both of them being fired.

I guess no matter what Fulmer does, he shouldnt be criticized or compared to our previous head coaches?? Is that your point?
You're starting to sound like a scratched CD (that's new age for broken record for some of you... :D )

:eek:lol:

ok we need a new thread where everyone can state which camp your in.

I think its pretty maddening that everyone who criticizes Fulmer is labelled in the Fire Fulmer camp. I hope that makes you feel better.

Yeah, that's JUST what we need.... :mf_surrender:

Amazing how they weren't here when we won the East last year. Weird

As far as Majors being fired, I've heard 2 rumors;

Majors was a drunk, and Majors used a racial epithat at halftime of a bowl game. Now I dont know if those are both true, but I'm not ready to believe that always been rumors as far as I have known. Pretty ugly rumors to be brought up, but since it came up

It's about as common as bashing Fulmer / Ainge...Nothing new.

Dont agree that bringing up Fulmers win loss record over the last 7 years and comparing it to Battles and Majors last 7 years is on par with bringing up Majors got fired for other problems (alcohol and using racial slurs).

Look if Fulmer cant handle people talking about his win-loss record, he's got a lot bigger problems then.

God forbid that anyone's held accountable for lack of performing, stupid decisions, etc. Too many kool aid drinkers and sheep nowadays that will defend whoever's in charge for the sole reason of them being in charge. Leaders often make no decision or stupid decisions. People will always be quick to jump on someone's case for making those decisions or lack of. But to criticise the ones criticising makes no sense at all. And defending mediocrity or poor leadership makes even less sense.

Keep preaching CS. 5-6 with losses to Vandy and Spurrier is not just a poor season or a bump in the road. It is a disaster. Calling it anything less is minimizing...especially when you start the season at number 3 in the country. Christmas came early this year with RS resignation. Everything else is just icing on the cake.

5-6 is no doubt a disaster . . . but I am tired of seeing terms like sheep and kool aid drinker for anybody that doesn't believe Phil should be canned. I'm not criticizing the criticizers, just responding to the groupthink that seems to be going on which says that anybody still in CPF's corner must be an idiot.

Flame away (but remember, I have an edit button). :D

Still don't know why people insist on name calling. It get's rather frustrating on both sides.

That wasn't the edit button . . . That was the Delete button. Some things are just too worthless to edit.

I think it's a lot of Scots-Irish influence in the breeding. Some of us carried on the genes of fighting and arguing and standing for honor, so on and so forth. You get a lot of hot heads and stubborn types who are a mix of wrong and right. Everyone's in their happy place and few are willing to change their minds or even read the other sides' points. The only thing all of us (well most here anyway) have in common is a like of UT. From that point there is a huge divergence.....coaches, players, or even the sports under the Orange. Fact is most of this board is used as a venting tool or a forum to further the "know-it-all" egos out in the world. Gotta love freedom of speech and gotta love the internet even more.....

Exactly. Most of know that all of our ranting and raving doesn't mean doolie-squat to the powers that control UT athletics. However, it does our psyche good to find other Vol fans that agree with our opinions.. Notice not many posts are made on the subjects that we all agree( like Pat Summitt as a coach or Smokey as a mascot).

Frankly, I would hate to think UT's A.D. & Athletic Dept. is so STUPID that they totally ignore how many real UT Fans feel. This forum is as good as any to evauate that pulse. Of course, I'm not sure CPF is quite that sharp, but at least he's making a change...yet it be 4-5 years in recognizing the problem.

Surely, with several other SEC Teams passing us by, our attendance falling, merchandise sales decreasing, not playing in ANY bowl game, UT having several totally underperforming offensive squads, insisting on maintaining a moldy offensive scheme, falling from # 3 pre-season to # 63 and finally letting way too many under talented teams push us to the limit. I don't feel it's being overly critical to say Fulmer has been in denial for some time. I have my doubts he can raise the banner of another SEC Championship again in his career. Truthfully, if there isn't some serious improvement in 06, I have my doubts about even a SECE Banner ever parking in Knoxville under his "leadership".

UT Football & UT Fans have got to much on the line to accept mid-level coaching with superior talent.

For years I've stated UT has got only ONE impressive Head Coach & she seldom lets her fans down. I now am proud to say UT appears to have TWO impressive Head Coaches. Bruce's Boys will not win all their games, but they are well coached & he gets the most (and then some) from his players talent. My friends, I don't believe UT Fans should expect or demand anything less from the football coaches.

I've been avoiding the anti-UT/Fulmer threads for months now. If I reply to some of these posts I would probably get banned so I just ignore them for now.

Ok, Ok, already Christmas is over and Santa brought us an early present. We have Coach Cutcliffe back, and the offense will return to what we were accustomed to on offense before Randy Sanders took over. Erick Ainge needs to add an extra 6 hours of film study to his semester load. Our receivers need to go back to the basics and learn to catch the ball with gloves off. I am excited about Arian Foster, he's a gamer. Offensive Line needs to play basketball to work on agility in the offseason. Defense, well I am not mad at them at all because they played they hearts out all year. Only if the defense had a productive offense they wouldn't had to be on the field all game. The secondary can use some more skill training( see highlight film of Jason Allen). Everyone knows that Tennessee carries nothing less than blue chip athlethes, so it's time to get in gear and get back to do what we do best. I am excited about 2006 and I can't wait.
