I thought it would interesting to see what everybody thought the individual names mentioned would have at reaching greatness as our leader.

Greatness to me is multiple SEC championships and at least 1 national title in 10years.

Here is my list of coaches and their chances at greatness IMO.

Gruden 60per
Petrino 55per
Patterson 50per
strong 45per
Golden 40per
smart 30per
Stoops 25per

Lets see your percentages for those names and others

My question would be, "Do I think that the candidate involved could win an SEC championship in 5 years?"

Jon Gruden - 50% (Never been a college head coach, so that's why I have that percentage lower than most would put on here).

Bobby Petrino - 65-70% (Is a huge scumbag, but an excellent coach)

Charlie Strong - 45-50% (I'd say probably the best mix of a proven college coach who can recruit, and a man of good character)

Al Golden - 25-35% (Don't think Golden is 2.0. The guy is a very good coach who got the worst major college football program to be relevant, however, there are serious questions about what exactly his ceiling is)

Kirby Smart - 35-40% (No more Saban disciples. Again, wouldn't be a copycat of Derek Dooley, but I'm not sure exactly how comfortable I am with him as the coach)

Sonny Dykes - 10-20% (Dude is doing real well down there in Ruston, but his team just lost the WAC to Utah State, who is well coached, but that conference was probably his for the taking. Still, he's accumulated a pretty decent record, although I'd be real upset if he was hired)

The "Unrealistic" Candidates

Bob Stoops - 75-80% (Dude is a very good coach, but there's no way in hell he leaves OU)

Gary Patterson - 50% (Built TCU up from a struggling mid-major into a BCS program. Not leaving)

By "greatness", we mean an SEC championship, right?

Then, I'd say...

Jon Gruden 75%
Chris Petersen 75%
Bob Stoops 60%
Gary Patterson 55%
Jimbo Fisher 50%
Butch Jones 50%
Bobby Petrino 35%
Sonny Dykes 35%
Al Golden 5%
David Cutcliffe 1%

My percentages we based off the definition of greatness being multiple SEC championships and 1 national title over a ten year period. If Gruden or any other coach only has 1 SEC title that tenure would be considered good but far from great IMO
