The Hurricanes will begin playing in Joe Robbie Stadium starting with the 2008 season.

ESPN - Hurricanes moving to Dolphin Stadium in 2008 - College Football

I can't believe its taken them this long to make this decision. The UM athletic department should have a significant increase in revenue from the luxury suites and club seats at the newer venue.

Having the 'Canes at the sponsorless stadium along with the Dolphins and Marlins should also help secure a naming rights sponsor for the venue, which lost Pro Player apparel a few years ago.

It has been mentioned that the Orange Bowl could be demolished and replaced with the new baseball-only stadium the Marlins have been begging for.

all i can say is it's about time. the orange bowl is a dump in a terrible part of Miami. i know the tradition and all, but the Orange Bowl isn't even played there any more for goodness sakes.

TONS of history, though. Hail Flutie, Broadway Joe's prediction, Michael Irvin's first ugly suit...

It'd be nice to see it renovated into a new home for the Marlins.

Just another example of America's continual march toward mind numbing corporate conformity. College football will be a less electric place in 2008.

Agreed. Joe Robbie sucks and is no place for the Canes. I enjoy watching them in the Orange Bowl, on my TV.

The 'Canes playing in Dolphin Stadium will be comparable to Public Enemy performing at the Grand Ole Opry.

Joe Robbie does feel extremely cardboard and stiff, very sanitized. It will hardly be a good fit for the usual fans that filled the Orange Bowl for UM home games.

Then again, its an easier place to set up metal detectors. And that ought to cut the home crowd by about a third right there.

With the end of the line in sight, the local media and many of the famous 'Cane alums are pushing to make the Thursday night game against Texas A&M a sort of reunion/farewell party. The Aggies better bring their "A" game. The OB at night, with the emotion that will be in the air that night, will be absolutely nuclear.
