I have frequented this site for at least 5 years and formally joined going on a year. This is my FIRST THREAD and I hope not to be berated by those who feel they don't like the thread bc we need to be a community who constructively communicates. I love the banter and quasi arguments that make the board dynamic and have had a few myself... I am a laid-back back musician, peaceful kinda guy and, well,...this is my plea to the almost 1/2,48-49%, of our true VFL's to truly represent what VFL means.
Lets try and get a movement to buy up all those really cheap season tix that are left and PACK THAT AWESOME, DAMN BEAUTIFUL FOOTBALL MECCA we are honored to have man. Some are going for $300/ticket-$500/donation. I know there will be a small percentage of Bandwagon/Fair-weather fans will choose to not "support the HC" until he "proves" himself to them...(BTW what a fair-weather approach and lame as hell)...but somehow "support" the players...I argue that is an oxymoron at its best man. I wont explain bc I feel most of those on this board are educated enough to read between the lines.
He has made good points in his presser and has had success at all stops...all be it at smaller less elite institutions... We ALL know the argument of the weak SOS, right? However, I ask a very legit and skirted around question posed by many other thinkers on this board. Would logic not come into play at all here? Would the "Program and Plan" which has worked in ALL of his previous stops not translate into ANY league, with all things being relative, if, and that is the big big IF the players completely buy in. He spoke of HAVING AN OPEN DOOR POLICY TO EACH AND EVERY LETTERMAN at any time!!
Lets show the country we at the UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE can indeed unite by putting all the might from the great VolNation behind this Man who has his DREAM JOB and exudes success and winning. I for one will be at the Spring Game for the first time ever next year for the simple fact this is the most pivotal point our great University has faced in 100 years...If we all can MAN UP(LADIES INCLUDED) and some of us bite the proverbial bullet and make this the best Spring Game attendance in history of the UT, then that one event could raise hope and immediate "re-support" from the rest of our skeptical VolNation.
We need you all!! VFL, peace and love:peace2:

People will continue to bash a guy who hasn't lost a game for UT yet, just as people will praise a guy who has yet to win a game for UT yet. It's the downside to having a passionate fanbase; when our team is down we are down.

We could have Jesus as our HC and this board would still be divided.

Amen.

They say polar opposites attract and in the case of VN that is so true. The problem is when they come together, they just want to beat the hell out of each other.

So to the OP, you might as well go ahead and breathe, because if you hold your breath waiting on this fanbase to come together, you probably won't make it.

there you go fairweather or bandwagon fans, dude i have to be excited to drive 500 miles to see a game. so far this hire has done very little to excite me. might change after recruiting season, but i'm not holding my breath. i wouldn't expect any record setting attendence for any game including the spring. it is being alittle unrealistic

Ya Think? Thats exactly why I made the thread was to say it would be a huge lift for the team if we (even those who live 500 miles away) would come even if they arent excited about it... WE NEED ALL OF US, DIFFERENCES AND ALL, TO GET TO THE STADIUM.

it's not going to be worth the money or raising my blood pressure to watch us lose, and that is the way i feel right now. people that have little hope that the team will perform well won't come. maybe some that live around knoxville, but not many that have to drive long distances. i held season tickets for 5 years, it was nice but the last 5 yrs haven't been. you can't expect everybody to get on board and be happy about this hire, support yes but happy no. i can support my vols just as well sitting at home watching them and drinking beer. if i was happy about the hire then yes i would probably blow the money to see them play 3 or so games. just not real excited about jones right now. he will have to impress me first.

Blind faith is a wonderful thing. You'll either be rewarded for it or it will reach up and bite you in the azz later on.

Color me neutral until he proves what he can do at this university because what he did at Cincy was great for them, but here he will be going up against some of the best coaches in the country.

Sumlin showed he could get it done in his first year in the SEC. Now the question is, can Butch Jones and the only way that can be answered is by the product he puts on the field. Not by what he did in the Big East or the MAC.

To get this going we got to have the talent.
The Players are the ones who produce make it happen.
Coach all day say this say that but what matters is the talent.

This boy from Beech came to my town played our team.
This is the kind of player we have to get. He kicked our butts. That is talent

You folks spend way to much time trying to get the bashers to be positive. They like it that way. It's there style to argue and be differant. For the last two days any negative comments by a poster of this new staff they go into the ignore bucket. It's a big list but I dont like the negative. This is the time to try to unite and not divide. Plenty of time for bashing if the man cant get it done.

I love how so many just don't get it. I am all for supporting our football players, but supporting the direction of our program is a different issues. I live in crapabama and still wear my orange despite how awful our program has become. The bammers and Aubie fans actually feel sorry for us and have all but quit talking smack. They tell me it will get better. Will it? Not if we continue to blindly support this AD and his goal to destroy Tennessee football once and for all. I will not support the direction our program is headed. This hire (as well as the past 2) is unacceptable. It is not wrong for a fanbase to want to be competitive. We have been waiting SEVERAL years for that. Now we have at least 3 before this coach runs out of excuses for not getting it done. He may have won in lesser conferences, but this is the BIG LEAGUES. It is not wrong to want and demand to win. We have 2 SEC victories total in the past 2 seasons and no bowl games. Next year will be just as bad but likely worse. Have you seen our schedule? Did you know our top 3 on offense are going pro?
