This may be a stupid question, but is there any sort of database to look up cars based on select specs?

For example, I am looking for a new (to me) car. I know I want something with more HP (v6), more room, and bigger cargo(trunk) than I currently have.

Instead of looking at vehicles and then researching them one by one, is there an easier way?

Thanks

Edmunds allows you to search by type but I don't know of something with the parameters you suggest

Yeah, that's all I got right now. But you have so many different classes of sedans, it's ridiculous to sort through.

how deep on selected specs? ie wheel size, engine size, etc... or just things like color and dvd players

if not deep, one way is trying carmax.com. Open the search up to anywhere the there are are options you can look for. They have a wide variety of cars so its somewhere to start.

HP, cargo can be misleading.

Easier to narrow down what you want out of a car - price, any brand affinities or avoidance, comfort vs performance, etc.

Once you know that some people here that are car nuts can probably throw some recommendations at you. Then when you look up that car for reviews they'll typically compare it to close competitors on the dimensions you first mentioned.

Between all of us I'm sure we could point you in a decent direction ....what do you have now?

2008 Kia Rio. Bought it 3 years ago as I was driving 120 miles a day. Now, I live 2 minutes from the school I teach/coach at and am looking for something makes hauling equipment (and kids at times) around.

I have been looking at Imapalas, Chargers, Jukes, Fusions just to name a few.

Sounds like sedan or SUV (juke) okay.

A used Mazda CX-7 might be a good choice. Fun to drive for an SUV, good power and good cargo space in the back. Only negative is I think they require premium gas.

I want to stop you there buddy. Avoid the turbo one like the plague because of reliabilty. The non turbo versions are fine.

I did not know that - reliability problems?

I had one for a while but didn't have it long enough to experience problems.

Yep. The turbos were stricken with issues.

It's one of the Mazdas I wouldn't recommend.

Rx8
Turbo cx7
Miller cycle millennia.

No problem. I hope I didn't come off rudely, but I just wanted to strongly recommend against it.

That said I fully endorse the non turbo.

I would recommend checking out a Toyota Highlander. I'll have to do some checking to see what would fit the budget, but that's a good pace to start.

One I'm looking at is an 08 Charger, 77k miles, for 10k.

But Dad is suggesting against a 10 year old car. Never mind the fact that's what I have now with 111k miles.

A Charger should have stopped you right there

There's a reason is only 10k with 77k miles. Unless you have a personal relationship with your mechanic and like to see him alot, probably should avoid it.

IMO, yes. You cant drive thru a county anywhere without seeing a law enforcement officer in a Charger. Reason is, not that its a great car, but it met specs on the bid and was the cheapest. Those same fleet managers that got them are also cussing because they're in the shop so much more as well as having worse mpgs. Price isnt everything

I would also not recommend a used charger either. Fun car, but dubious build quality.

The area I am struggling in assisting you in is your scope. Seems like you are really open to a wide range of vehicles and classes.

I think that might be some the issue you might be having as well.

Think about what type of vehicle you want:

Compact sedan
Small suv
Mid size sedan
Large sedan

Figure out what kind of vehicle you want first. Then start to figure out what cars in that segment you like and have a good reputation for quality.

You want to compare apples to apples.

I guess that's the problem. Just looking for something bigger but under 15k. Could be anything!
