Kansas Def Coordinator Carl Torbush resigned. He has prostate cancer and is expected to make a full recovery.

Some of the old timers will recognize Carl as a former Knoxvillian. He played football (center/linebacker) and baseball (great catcher) at East (Austin-East) High School in the late 60's. I played against Carl in High School and in little leage baseball at Volunteer Park in its heyday. Carl was considered too small for major college ball and continued at Carson Newman where he was a standout. He made up for size with a huge heart and unmatched toughness. He coached at several schools and was head coach at North Carolina at one time.

Underneath it all, Carl was always a Vol fan (even when he was forced into hiding!). Please join me in wishing a great Knoxville athlete a speedy and full recovery.

he always put an excellent defense on the field at UNC... was looking forward to seeing continued improvement at KC now that they're starting to get some players... hopefully they detected his illness early

One of my stepfathers best friends and a great man. When I camped while he was at A&M he was a harda$$ but off the field he has outstanding faith with the lord. My stepdad hasn't spoken with him in a couple of weeks but said he would give him and call and give me an update. Either way I expect Coach Torbush to be back at it soon.

Had surgery today. The doctors said everything went well. In 3 months he will know if he is cancer free.
