Does anyone have any realistic idea when the automotive industry will catch up with demand? I'm shopping for a car and have a great offer on my Jeep. The market is insane. Of the models I'm interested in, either you can't find one or they are $5-20k over MSRP/ what they cost 2 years ago. Even the Tesla 3 is almost $60k with the long range battery. You could get one for 42 not long ago. Aside from that, I'm in the S5/6, Lexus IS, etc field.

I had the same problem recently looking for a car for my son. I shopped every dealer for the brand he wanted within 100 miles. I was finally able to purchase one at MSRP after a week of searching. That was the lowest price I could get and the first time I ever paid MSRP. I got top dollar for my trade in vehicle in cash and leased the new car, banking the equity. If you want to get the equity out of your vehicle now is the time.

The local, and very shady, Ford/Lincoln in Cookeville is right at the top of the scammer chain. They had an F250 6.7 Tremor that normally retails for $80K at MSRP plus options. They tacked on another 25K sucker pqyment. And some fool bought it. Now they have a gorgeous F350 King Ranch Tremor with hidden winch and all. Hate to know what that is on the lot for. And they have 2 jacked up Broncos. But, you can't window shop there anymore. I suppose with all the bad publicity about delaers and these mark-ups, they have removed all MSRP stickers, and windshield prices from all vehicles. THe only way you can get a price is to actually speak to one of those creatures.

Same with the Ford dealer in Gallatin. We need 2-3 3/4 ton work trucks and so far there are at least 3 dealers that I've talked to who will never get any of our business again.

In NY, the dealer can get fined $1,000 per incident of removing the Monroney label before delivery.

I pass by on my way home at night when I work at bowling center. Pulled in last night. I get the used vehicles. Not required to put price. They do have the info stickers up. Out of curiosity, looked at their inventory online this morning. THey have prices listed on all the vehicles except the ones they are jacking up. THose have 'call for price.' THat F350 King Ranch Tremor only had maybe 3500 miles on it. It's probably being pimped at $120K.

Even the stuff we can order, the amount of constraints is stupid
Are there not hundreds of thousands of '21/'22s sitting somewhere waiting on chips? I would think at some point they will have to either scrap or fire sale the older models...

This article supposedly shows pictures of all the Ford trucks sitting at KY Speedway waiting for chips. Says it was taken in July 2021 so no telling how many have been sitting there well over a year now. If they have Ford will have to have a fire sale or offer very extended warranties.

And that's why they will never move an inch. Ford will take a smaller hit to the bottom line letting those trucks rot and scrapping them, than they will completing them and selling at deep cuts. If they put the chips in and fire sell them, they will crash the current scam market (i.e. Garbage Dealers).

Likely will never happen.

A Lexus IS is going to remain rare for a while. $20k over MSRP is high. $5k is about right. It's nessecary to keep people from flipping popular product. When this all supply chain problem started I wouldn't let anybody in my stores sell over MSRP. I believed that it would one day destroy my business. It only took me a couple months to realize that people were ordering my most popular models and immediately selling them to local used car dealers for several thosands more. That left me with nothing to offer my local customers.

Lexus will ease some in the coming days but it won't be going back to where it was in the foreseeable future. Find a reasonable dealer with a fair markup.

I might just drive my Jeep till the wheels fall off.

Especially with this beautiful weather this week.

Have been wanting to trade my Spark soon and upgrade to something a little bigger. Will have it paid off this month. I’ve looked at a Trax and Trailblazer. My local Chevy dealership has the MSRP listed and below an inflation adjusted price over $2,300.

Also, many dealerships won’t show prices now.

My employer is in the process of transitioning from company assigned vehicles to a stipend program and if you don’t have a truck already ordered and in the queue then you start now. I went to it 2 weeks ago and bought a vehicle for myself for the first time since 2010. The process from a price standpoint wasn’t fun but knowing you’re going to pay exactly what’s on the sticker and there’s no point in drawing out the haggling, was welcoming. Also, having to buy a vehicle during this time of interest rates was a kick in the balls. It’s actually a very good rate for where we are today, it’s just a crappy rate overall.

There’s places out there that aren’t still. I work for a Chevy/Cadillac dealer and we aren’t over MSRP, even on Corvettes and Escalades. We still honor supplier/employee pricing too
