Catchings Backs Current Lady Vols

Right or wrong, looks like Catching disagrees with many on the board.

Tamika Catchings, others address Lady Vols - GoVolsXtra Story
I don't get that she sees it differently than most on here. She talked about team leaders taking over and that has been discussed. She talked about how Pat would do something and it would work. She never said she thought Holly would do that. I didn't see a ringing endorsement of the staff anywhere in that article. The fact that 3 former players showed up tells me that the former players are highly concerned about what's going on with this team. Can this team turn it around? Of course they can, but it should have never gotten to this point.

With recruiting dropping off I think it will really show Holly's lack of coaching ability. IMO the longer she stays the harder it will be to clean this mess up. Tennessee Women's Basketball is only a name now and TBA is a museum for what Pat built.

oh, come on guys... I'm as sick of Holly's non-leadership as anyone but I think it's time to stop the whiny badmouthing.

Do you/ did you constantly bad mouth your kids? Or comment to one and all how worthless they are? How their teachers are awful?

Time to suck it up, keep the negatives to yourself and let the season play itself out. Then, I'll torch the bonfire if needed. And, yes I probably am guilty of being hypocritical with this post but I have decided to lay off the negativism.

Go VOLS LDVs 4 ever!

Unless Holly goes full Dooley on us, no former LV will say anything negative about her. Having said that, I would suspect that Holly perceives her messages to the players as having fallen on deaf ears. Perhaps they've tuned her out or at least she may think it's happening, and she's asking former players to drop a few words on the team in the hope of reaching them before things really head south?

No matter....if this were Holly's first year, maybe this could be interpreted as "newness" or getting adjusted to a new coach, but this isn't year one. Hard not to imagine the clock is ticking for her. Guess we will find out in the next year or two if she's going to survive, but I'd put my money on a coaching change in a couple of years. Something just doesn't seem right. Almost like the well is poisoned. Toxic atmosphere surrounding the LVs these days.

I think its great that former players are stopping by to give a word of encouragement and some insight. I still think if this offense is not addressed, Tennessee will continue to struggle and may loose many more games. I like how she compared her tenure at Tennessee when they lost badly to Georgia, but still made it to the National Championship game. That's good, but Holly does not possess the fire and ability to motivate her team like Summitt did. Things are not looking to good right now and there aren't any signs that they're on the verge of changing. We signed not a single top 100 player, we play terrible against decent teams, we could only put up 43 against a VT team that was picked to finish at the bottom of the ACC, we are getting bashed and laughed at on the recruiting trail, you have coaches sitting down with recruits showing them film of how poorly Tennessee lacks fundamentals, haves no offensive system and haves bad defensive techniques. The sad thing is we as fans really can't say anything to defend any of these accusations. I really like Holly as a person, but I just don't think she will be able to lead this program back to Final Fours or National Championships. It's also scary because I don't think she'll step down even if the program continues to decline while under her leadership.

I agree with you, no I never did those things to my kids but I stayed on their ass if they kept making the same mistake over and over again and when they were not using good judgement. I want the season to play out and I hope Holly can get control of this team. It feels bad deep inside to see a once proud and elite program possibly going the way of a lot of former elite programs. Especially since you have been a Lady Vol fan since it was not popular for men to support women's basketball. This is not necessarily an excuse but many of us are just frustrated at the direction things are going without a glimmer of sunlight at the end of the tunnel.

JMO but I do not believe Holly can get back control of this team.If this season turns around for the better it will be due to the players exhibiting leadership on the court and taking ownership of the team .

Reading Comprehension 101 now meeting down the hall in Room 206

First, thank you for your constructive criticism, you must be a joy.

This was the section where I thought she deflected the blame from Holly.

“I think right now they need players, not the coaches, they need players to step up and take ownership of the team,” she said. “They have a lot of great pieces. In order to win games and in order to be where you want to be down the road, everything has to pull together.”

Being serious. Could the problem be team chemistry? Players who didn't play last year. Injuries and new comers. Doesn't excuse poor coaching at times. But could it be this team just hasn't meshed?

I don't think that is a majority of the problem. BB is not that complicated and all these girls have been playing since they were knee high to a duck.

True. But if you ever went to a gym to play with a bunch of guys you never played with. You don't know their ways of thinking. Learning to play together is a big deal. When to look for shots or pass. Coaching is a big part of it though.

When did the Lady Vols start practicing for this season, both formally and informally?

I don't say much but things are really out of hand now so I'll have my say just like the rest of you who are posting here.

First, there are many different types of leadership styles. Holly's style appears to be a type of servant leadership. There is absolutely nothing wrong with servant leadership in and of itself. Probably most of you have never been in an organization that empowers its employees through servant leadership. For the record, it is the best type of leadership style for talented people.

This forum would be a much better place to follow the lady vols if there was a lot less mindless whining drivel. People say things on a forum that they would never dare say in person. Its disconcerting that people can be so disrespectful and hateful in this type of environment.

This is a new team and deserves fan support while it develops a new identity. To hide behind a keyboard and take cheap shots at the coaches and players is more adolescent than objective and is destructive to those who visit this board to find out about the Lady Vols. From the overwhelming majority of posts I've read, it would be more accurate to call this forum "Volhaters.com"

Of course, if you are a supporter of another basketball program, and your objective is to destroy the character of this program by using rampant negativism, you're doing a great job!

The big problem with the team is that the guards have played as bad as anyone can play. Were shooting 25 percent from the three point line and every guard has a boat load of turnovers. Whether you blame that on them of Holly is the question. I say both Holy for not having a offensive system or game plan and the players for not working to get better. There is no way they have worked to get better because they were better players last season.

Whenever we get a new coach which will have to be soon within the next couple of years because the program will be abysmal by then she'll support whomever that coach is because she's a VFL.
