I haven't seen this point discussed, so apologies if it's another thread. I think a key difference between the CBB and CFB tournaments is the difference between the last team out in each. In basketball, the last team out has no conceivable chance to win the whole thing. I don't think that's true of a 12-team football tournament. As it stands right now, Tennessee would potentially (and maybe likely) be the first team out. While we wouldn't be favored to win it, it's not even close to an impossibility that we could win it should we get in. I'm 100% against automatic bids. Just take the 12 best teams. Period. This would greatly minimize teams getting in that have no chance to win. When there are only 12 spots instead of 68, those spots are precious and should go to the most deserving teams . . . IMO.
