CBJ non commitment to any QB

Start Dobbs and when we're 17 down in the 4th have Worley come off the bench and lead us to an OT victory:)

Wrong, BAMA had their starters in up until 6 minutes to play and even then they were 50/50 starters and backups. Verne said it right on the broadcast clear as day for everyone to hear.

Accurate.

sjt18 erroneously posted the same "against the backups" info yesterday in another thread. Why?

I do not care who starts, Dobbs will play Saturday.

Dobbs may start or come in as a change of Pace QB, his RS is gone now and CBJ is not going to waste a RS for a half of a football game.

IMHO Worley starts Saturday if he is able to go but if the Offense does not get a fast start or Worley Struggles then Dobbs comes in. If the Offense and Worley are having some success then Dobbs will play in certain packages the staff will install this week or when the game is decided either way he plays.

Dobbs starts no matter what against Auburn at home and the rest of the season and I really do believe this. I think CBJ would be more comfortable starting the true Freshman at home then on the road, let him get some game experience on the road and let his first start be in the friendly confines of Neyland Stadium.

I am thinking if Worley is out we may see Ferguson Saturday also. The only question is does CBJ want to burn both RS of the Freshman QB's.

The bottom line is CBJ is going to play the QB who gives the team the best shot at getting to a bowl game.

I have no idea. He absolutely loves Worley, thinks he is a "very good" QB and just makes stuff up all the time to argue that point. I busted him out on it so many times I believe he put me on ignore.

He said in another thread that he didn't see any dropped passes while Dobbs was in. He also said Dobbs had 1 postive run (he had 3). He said Dobbs didn't have more zip on his passes than Worley. He is delusional and everyone should be busting him out. I would of thought he was a troll if he hadn't been on the board for so long.

Always easy to make tough decisions from the comfort of your moms basement.

Really? Then guess none of us should share any opinion on this site and just say "whatever the coach does is the absolute right decision".

No need to be insulting. Ridiculous for someone to share an opinion and be ridiculed. You really think it was a wise decision to keep Justin in after the ball slipped out and it was an INT? And isn't it a valid point that sometimes players extend their play when injured when a healthy backup may be a better option?

Drop the insults. Very ridiculous to try to participate in a dialogue on here and have fans insulting each other.

Oh wait, you are correct... our coaching staff is always, always correct. They were correct to keep Peterman in the entire first half of Florida as well. I love CBJ, I just have an observation on the current situation.

And btw I have competed on a D1 level and was a 4 year letterman in 3 sports. Didn't do that from the comfort of your mom's couch, but your mom did show me her bedroom.

He was 5/12 against Bama's back ups and threw into coverage in ways that he wouldn't get away with against their starters.

Agree with you except for "starters" comment. Yeah there were some 2/3 deep guys in the game but both starting safeties and half or more of the starting D were in on both scoring drives. Saban wanted a shutout.

Also, I thought it was odd that McCarron was still in at the 8 minute mark throwing into the end zone. I don't have a problem from the "running the score up" angle; its the Vols problem to stop them, but hey its already 42-10 with no chance of the Vols coming back and what happens to your NC dreams if AJ gets hurt in what should have been mop up time?

But hey Nick gets paid more in a week than I make in a year so I guess he had a good reason.:whistling:

CBJ is just trying to make the decisions that give his team the best opportunity to win. It's not an easy decision throwing in a true freshman against #1 Alabama on the road, it just isn't.

Down 35-0 with no chance of winning that game is not a bad time to put a FR in. You tell the kid to make plays and have fun....and do NOT look at the scoreboard.

At the end of the game you can point out all the good things he did and if someone brings up a negative you have the built in reasons of: It's Bama...on the road, true FR playing...will make mistakes, etc.

Now, when he goes into the game at Mizzou it will not be as intimitating because you put him in a "no lose" situation at Bama.

If Worley recovers and has success on Saturday then why would he lose his starting position to Dobbs for Auburn? Just trying to understand the logic.

Also why would you think we see Ferguson on Saturday?

does not see logical to burn 2 redshirts if not needed. Let them compete for starting position in spring and fall camp. No rush to get Fergy in the game.

Just challenging the logic here.

There are 2&3 deep guys in the game in qtrs 1-4 each game. Not unusual.

Quite possibly will have 3 unbeaten by the end of the year in Oregon, FSU and AL. Next week big game for FSU. Unfortunately the way the system is 'style points' matter and with the protection that AL O-Line gave and the type of protection they gave him it was more about national championship vs beating UT.

Also McCarron is a Heisman candidate.

Remember when a coach went for 2 vs an extra point when being ahead and the coach was asked by a reporter "Why did you go for 2?" Coach "Because we couldn't go for 3".

Although bama had most starters in through the 3rd quarter they stayed in base defense the entire second half. Much easier than when they are mixing up coverages etc. Let's not crown Dobbs just yet.

Dude makes bogus claims and then tells people if they don't disprove what he's saying then he's right. He's unaware he is the one who has to prove his claims. He must've been a prosecutor in the Zimmerman trial. It all makes sense now.

Why would you burn a redshirt on a freshman QB in the 2nd half of an unwinnable game for no reason?

Easy, you wouldn't. Worley could take snaps and just hand the ball off or hell, even Pig Howard could have taken snaps at QB to do that.

Dobbs went into the game because the decision was made that he is the next starting QB for the University of Tennessee.

You don't burn a redshirt to play a kid ONLY in the 2nd half of a meaningless game.....you just don't. It doesn't make sense.

Worley's health was, and is, still in question. They had to get Dobbs some snaps so he would be prepared if he has to start a meaningful game against mizzou.

Exactly my takeaway from the CBJ presser. Peterman is almost back. Worley day by day. Dobbs could play. Ferguson is very similar in demeanor to Dobbs. Props to all QBs! Know a lot may be coach speak because you need to keep all QBs thinking they have a shot. Hell, that was my dating style until I finally committed to my wife.

Don't get me wrong, After that one ball came out of his hands without him being touched and Justin winced in pain he should have been pulled. Coach makes decision on who is in vs the player's pride ahead of what is best for the team.

If you watch the game, he was hit by a defensemen in the back (actually, a DL'man pushing Richardson into Worley) by a collapsing pocket just prior to the pass. On the backswing I believe. It didn't just slip.

Now, I don't think Worley is Montana, but lord, guys seriously need to go easy on a 20yo kid. I used to say everyone that made a mistake "sucked"...when I was 16. The talk around here makes it sound like all everyone wants is an AR15 and to go all "Surviving the Game" on him. He plays QB at a big program. He has to hear enough crap. Chill.

Whenever I see wounded qbs playing , I'm reminded of Byron Leftwich at Marshall.
Offensive lineman would carry him down the field to make his next pass.
Was the back up really that bad?

Correct, so with all those questions then why would anyone legitimately believe Worley would be the starter given the information we currently have?

If Worley does start, and can't get it done, Dobbs will be into the game a lot sooner than after half time. I agree, why burn a redshirt in the 7th game of the season then don't give the kid a chance. Butch knows he's expected to go to a bowl game this year, so he's going to go with the guy that he feels will give him the best shot at doing that. If he doesn't make it will let the feel good air out of the sails in a hurry. Personally, I think we win 2 or 3 out of the next 4 games. At least we have the friendly confines of our home field for Auburn and Vandy.
