CBJ turned down Colorado offer BEFORE Tennessee came calling

I heard the Cinci AD's presser on the Ainge show. He laid it out pretty clear. He sad no less than 5 BCS schools contacted CBJ. CO wanted him baaaaaaad. They were throwing all kinds of things at him. He thought about it but ultimately decided to stay. But then TN came calling and he jumped at the chance.

An interesting note is that Babcock said Hart was the only AD to call and request permission to talk to CBJ.

Maybe that's why Hart had such a hard time with this process. He called people asking for permission and they turned him down while others just went straight to the coach.:eek:lol:

Won't mean squat for 40% of the posters here, but I respect that.

The saddest part of this hire for me is that ARKANSAS has managed to hire considerably bigger names for their last two coaches than UT. Why? Arkansas gets Petrino / Tennessee gets Dooley...Arkansas gets Bielema / Tennessee gets Jones. Either Tennessee, for some reason, is less attractive to potential coaches than Arkansas, who faces LSU and Alabama...OR, the hiring efforts of UT have been deficient. For clarity, I'm not suggesting Bielema is a home run hire or that Jones will be a flop, but Bielema is undeniably more highly regarded than Jones. From my perspective, it appears as though Arkansas' AD has simply been more determined. Why? To put it another way...With the previous hire, ARK got the head coack of the ATL Falcons while Tennessee got the coach from La Tech. With this hire, ARK got the coach from Wisconsin and Tenn, a school with a better tradition, a softer conference, and geographical superiority, got the coach from Cincinatti, after trying to land bigger names. Regardless of who we think Butch Jones may become, the truth remains...UT is being outsold by ARK.

We get it. Are you gonna post this in every thread?

Softer conference? I'll put GA,FL,SC up against Bama and LSU.

So Ark got a coach from the Falcons. How did that work out for them ? no doubt Dooley was bad but considering the situation any coach we could have got would be a lower tier. And trying to Tie that to Butch is just unfair.

Lets wait and see who ends up better.

I think Jones is the guy on "lets make a deal" that keeps opening the next door. Door number 1: Kentucky, 2: Purdue, 3: Colorado, 4: Tennessee.

I also think that Dave Doeren took door number 1 too quickly as I think door number 2 for him would've been Wisconsin instead of NC State.

Hart said in the presser that he didnt call to ask for permission but as a professional courtesy.

Especially since we also face bama every year and sometimes lsu.. So really we face the toughest in the country every year.. There's a reason UT usually has the toughest ranked schedule in the country.

Didn't anyone hear the presser?

Hart didn't ask for permission. He said he called as 'professional courtesy' to let him peer know what he was doing.

It's about impossible to win at colorado--very weak in-state talent, mediocre facilities, small fan base, limited money, etc. Their title in the 90s was from a lot of out of state recruiting.

But, that is true of many schools, including, at times, such places as USCw. Washington has relied at times on many players from California......and the list goes on.
