Are they just trying to light a fire under Worley?


KNOXVILLE -- Tennessee made its quarterbacks live for contact during Friday's practice, but even that couldn't slow Riley Ferguson.

The freshman has played well enough to split second-team reps with Nathan Peterman this week, and first-year coach Butch Jones volunteered his praise for Ferguson's Friday performance.

The coach also reminded everyone to stop before they start.

"The individual who stepped up was Riley Ferguson," Jones said. "Don't write about it. He's not the starting quarterback. We don't have a starting quarterback right now, so don't put words in my mouth.

"I thought he showed some poise. The thing I liked about him was his pocket presence. He doesn't get rattled, and he made some big throws."

Worley will start but I wouldn't be surprised to see Ferg behind center before the year is over. He will be a great qb here IMO

The kid will probably end up being a good QB for us in the future but to say by the Georgia game? I don't think at all this season. And one should hope not because in all honesty if worley gets pulled by Georgia game then we are sucking and that shouldnt happen with our oline and dline

It would be really cool if Butch names someone that isn't Worley the starter at QB. Having seen Worley play proves that experience doesn't mean anything when it's bad. Then again, maybe he's improved with a competent coaching staff.

As long as the QB has a grasp of the Offense, stays cool under pressure and doesn't make stupid mistakes I could care less if its a Freshman or a Senior.

Worley will be the starter come August 31st. Think about it, he's getting most of the 1st team reps now. Unless that changes suddenly in the next 10 days, who else would it be? Ferguson is NOT going to be the starter at 175 pounds! Peterman is not really working out with the 1's so unless that changes like...SOON as in today's scrimmage and beyond, I don't see how you think he's going to be the starter against Austin Peay. I'm telling you, the depth chart come August 31st will be....

Exactly two weeks until game day and Butch still doesn't have a starting QB. That sure says a lot about Worley.
