He is a good recruiter. Espically in the midwest. That is why BP hired him.

I'm not moved by the hire. However, a #3 guy doesn't drive your program. Given how it played out, I think giving the coach from Maryville College wouldn't have been a bad idea. If it worked out, great. If not, he wouldn't have caused any damage to the program. The fact we never contacted Jay Spoonhour, coupled with moving so slowly that Bob Sundvold lost interest, disappointed me. I'll defer to Pearl's judgment. He's certainly earned that much.

Must be, he beat out some good coaches for that slot. Plus, so far everything Pearl has touched has turned to gold! He is supposed to be a strong recruiter!

I guess that means he's finished running for president?

When I first saw this topic, I was getting ready to move it because I thought it would have something to do with a Flat Tax.

Why do I feel like the "Steve Forbes" jokes have been played out today. They were even trying to be funny on Sports Talk about how did his coaching leave him time to run for President...or something like that.

Jimmy Hyams has the same chance of being funny that Aretha Franklin does of being thin.

Forbes said part of his interview in Knoxville consisted of a 30-minute sit-down with Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt.

"It's smart for Bruce and Pat to work together; you can tell they have a very strong bond,'' Forbes said. "I'd bought a nice orange and blue tie to go with my suit, and Pat said, 'That's a very politically correct tie you have on.'

"She asked me some questions, and the last one was, 'Why do you want to come to Tennessee?' I said there was one reason: Bruce Pearl.''

Make no mistake, Vol fans should be excited about this hire. Some of you may know this, but Forbes was Pearl's first choice before Bruce even accepted the job at UT. That means Forbes was his first choice before Edgar. At the time, Forbes had just joined the Texas A&M staff and felt the timing wasn't right. He is supposed to be an excellent recruiter with ties to key areas, and he is very knowledgeable about half-court defenses - which is exactly the area Pearl needs the most help in. I would guess that Pearl intended to hire Forbes from the beginning, but wanted to do a thorough search first to be sure. Time will tell, but I believe this to be a very smart hire by Pearl.
