CBS Purchases 247 sports

CBSsports has agreed to purchase 247sports. Shannon Terry has now founded, built up and sold off Rivals and 247sports. Rivals was sold for approx $150m in 2007, I imagine this is a much larger sum.

Terry is staying on to run the day to day stuff. If they let him do his thing and stay out of the way it should be fine. They can dispose of Barton Simmons as their first order of business though.

Shannon Terry is a smart dude. I was in line to do a journalism internship at 247 right out of college when it was still pretty new, but ended up getting a job elsewhere that actually paid well. It's kinda funny to think that there's a decent chance I would have the ability to make CB predictions by now if it had worked out.

As I recall, at one time it may have had some degree of affiliation with espn...I don't believe there is any affiliation anymore, which makes it even more impressive as to how well run and maintained VN is. Freak and his crew are top notch, and we're fortunate.

I can see how it's going to help CBS (with being able to advertise top 250 players, their star rankings, their profiles and such during games) but I worry they are going to change the site and litter it those required 15 second ad videos plus other lame marketing gimmicks that we all hate...

Plus...CBS Sports is the absolute worst outlet in terms of sports coverage and journalism. I'm not going to expect much improvement from them, except maybe now they will be able to cover more games/events since they have deeper pockets to work out of.
