but he (Ainge) hasn’t been consistent and hasn’t shown he can lead the team to big wins.

I disagree with that. He has shown that ability to lead the team to big wins, just not recently...

Hey, the article is right on when it states it is SOLELY in the hands of the Coaching Staff.

But really hasn't that been the case for years now?

So called "realvol" are you saying that is the only part of the article that is right on? The guys who write for CFN write for other pubs of national fame and are very well respected. Of course they don't subscribe to your CPF hatred and pesimistic attitude.

allright beefy i will say this again I DONOT HATE FULMER! i just don't think he has done a very good job over the last 5 or so years and needs to be replaced. i also thought it was a preseason poll not a end of the season poll. in the preseason i can't see tennessee being in the top 20 there are to many other good teams out there that return a ton of talent. could tennessee be in the top 25 at the end of the year there is a possibility depending on how our offensive problems are answered. a top 10 finish i don't see that happening, and if it did i would say fulmer did a fine job, but i dought it. untill our problems are addressed on offense and untill we start playing games in sept we deserve no respect. it will all have to be earned on the field where the vols didn't take it last year. right now we deserve no hype.

The CFN brings up alot of good points. "In the hands of the coaching staff" is saying clearly that the talent is there and the coaches screwed it up. Not like this is a news flash to any of us. In fact, it is stating the painfully obvious but I guess it still needs to be written as justification for putting us so high in this preseason poll when we didn't do anything last year to back that up. I think it took a hard season and CPF should have seen it coming but he didn't. So, lesson learned and he, the team and the fans have to move on to next year. Best thing they can do and what a good coach does is he will use it as an example and learn from it.

Smoke, don't even try to explain. It just isn't worth it. No matter how many times you or I try to say what you just said, there are the few who only take what they want and run with it. If you try to restate your very legitimate and well thought out opinion, it stirs up those few into even more of a frenzy. Keep up the good arguments.

Well which should he do? Don't even try, or keep up the "good argument"?

Does the word contradiction mean anything?

I think it is interesting that they say something that we are all hoping for. Erik Ainge is a QB with "next level" skills. I think CFN realizes two things. First, the SEC east may be a little down next year. Second, the addition of Cut will make a tremendous difference with Ainge's development.

I tend to think given those to factors that UT is probably somewhere between not being ranked and number 9 in the country. The numbers between 15-20 sound awfully inviting for an unproven, yet very talent football team.

Biggest offensive loss: QB Rick Clausen

Either this means we have alot of great talent, and haven't lost much, or our offense is just another big stinking pile of Fulmer-doo.

I hope it's the former.

i also can't see how losing rick clausen is our "greatest offensive loss". that only sounds like good news to me personally

I don't think it is that far of a stretch. #9 is too high but all of the pieces are in place to get there. UT had a chance to win every single game they played last year, but careless, sloppy play turned into a 5-6 record. Whether you feel that was the fault of the staff or the players, it does not matter because Coach Cut WILL bring discipline back to the offense....better route running, catching, QB mechanics, etc. Some think his style is too vanilla but we didn't need flash last year, just discipline on and off the field. Everything that could have gone wrong last year did and there is no way this team will not improve with the talent they bring to the table. And as a side note, anyone who thinks South Carolina will be a better football team than UT is nuts.

id say our biggest offensive loss was rob smith

i'd say there are several more offensive weapons we lost that will have more of an impact than losing rick clausen but yeah, losing rob smith will definetly hurt

Yeah, that's definitely a testament to the ineptitude of our offense last year. And to think that Riggs was in a lot of preseason Heistmann-watch lists. I bet he HATES to read that line in the article!

Don't get me wrong, I am not a huge Rick Clausen fan but the stale offense last year was not because of him. He played really well when you look back on what he was thrown into. Alot of dropped balls, fumbles, and penalties kept him from looking better. He played above his ability, which he also is the first to admit. Others have also written, if he is our biggest offensive loss then last year was a bust. But to dog him out as a terrible player ain't right either.

yeah, i agree, but i think RC put some people off with his comments about the fans etc....that i think we could have all done without....cause i think, really, that he did about all he could do, given his physical limitations.

Basically it was his head and his leadership that was him. Since he's still here, we're not losing him. So technically, CFN is wrong on that being a loss to us. We still have what he brought to the table.

Jake I agree about Ricks comments. He seemed to be a smart kid but sometimes he lost his mind and said some stupid things that surprised me.

But I thank him for his effort as a UT player.
