Ranks Jarnell Stokes #37 overall and gives him a late-first round grade.

Chad Ford's Top 100 - ESPN

FWIW, Alex Poythress is ranked #5 overall. I know he's good, but that seems a little high to me - especially considering he isn't considered a Top 5 recruit by any of the services, let alone Top 5 player in the nation.

Interesting. Didn't look at the list, but yes, Poythress seems high.

Just wait til McRae takes it to the basket on him.

Interesting. I wanted Poythress very badly but he's getting too much love just because of the color and words on his jersey. No way this kid goes top 5.

If Stokes finishes the year projected as a late-first round pick, I would expect him to come back to school. He's young enough and his ceiling is high enough, that he could definitely improve on that.

I understand teams draft based on potential, just not in the Top 5. That's a lot of cash to be riding on potential.

I've been saying that I'll be shocked if Stokes returns for '13-14, but people have been making good points lately about his potential and present state. Now, I'm thinking there is a chance he'll come back. I know it's already been said, but if we can get maybe 3 of our highly touted recruits with Stokes returning.....god help the rest of the SEC.

Stokes is similar to Jared Sullinger - undersized post player, but is a big body and good rebounder. Sullinger on some occasions looked unstoppable, but then struggled against long, athletic big-men. Stokes will need to improve on his offensive range to get high first round grades, but I think he can definitely do it - he is more athletic than Sully, IMO.

In Sullinger's defense, he did battle some injuries that restricted his mobility. I think minus the injuries, he was a sure-fire lottery pick. You are right though, he and Stokes have very similar games.

That's what makes me think if his production is good his measurables won't be that big of a minus. Sully is very similar size wise, and Blair was significantly smaller, yet both were sure fire lottery picks until the injuries popped up.

If jarnell can average(this or next year) 15-18ppg and 8-12rpg while ahooting a good fg%, he will be projected to go lottery as well IMO. Probably not a top 5 pick ever unless he grows more, but he could climb up to around that 10-15 range IMO.

I think a lot of people will be surprised by Poythress this season. Top 5 is his cieling, I'm guessing, but I think he's a lock for a lottery pick.

Stokes is too low, and a full offseason of conditioning plus a full NCAA season will vault him up to first round material as well.

Adonis Thomas, if he stays healthy, won't go below a top 10 pick, possibly as high as top 5. I'm guessing. He's completely dedicated this off-season, and is up to 240 lbs. He'll be the best player on the court in every game Memphis plays this season. Can't wait for his sophomore season.

I'm expecting a lot from Adonis. I have no doubt he'll have a much better season than Poythress

I think Stokes decision will be based on if the draft is weak or not. If he has the season we expect and the draft is weak on big men, I see him going. He would benefit sticking around a bit longer though.

Next season's draft does seem very weak. The one-and-dones don't seem as strong as they have been in years past, nor do the returning players. Stokes has a good chance to go in the lottery if he plays up to his potential.

I do think Poythress will easily go in the Top 10. He strikes me as more NBA-ready than Noel, who seems like more of a work-in-progress. Poythress' game is very advanced for someone with his size and athleticism, and he'll be Kentucky's best player next year, imo. Noel will probably go higher in the draft because of his higher ceiling, though.

And hopefully Young can play like a lottery pick next season for us. We're going to need him to step up in a big way. It's just a matter of consistency for him.

I was really high on Young coming out of HS and dreaded playing Florida because of him. He has a NBA body but like you said, it's nearly consistent enough. Didn't he end the season playing very well though? If he plays to his potential, Florida could go a long ways.

Young is a case of "looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane". If he can get tougher and stay focused for 40 minutes, he's an NBA player.

Based off of what we saw from him when we played UF twice last season, seems like a joke that he's even projected in the first round

Yeah, definitely two of his worst games. He has the natural talent though. Needs to put it all together.

Yeah, he definitely has it in him. I just love that we SINCERELY embarrassed UF last season when they had 2 probable lottery picks.

I think Nerlans Noel is a better shot blocker than Davis.

Regardless of how talented Noel may be, I'll be very surprised if he's able to match what Davis did last year. That's no knock on Noel, either. Davis was a once-in-a-generation talent with his combination of length, athleticism, and skill.

I sure pray Noel is nothing like Davis. Hopefully we don't see a player like him for a long, long time because he was something special. Amazing to watch.

What makes you think that? He very well could be, but Davis was the best freshman shot blocker in what, 20 years, 50 years, ever???

To expect Noel to come in and beat that seems like a long shot. IMO UK fans will be a bit disappointed since many are expecting AD 2.0. Noel has very little offensive game, and doesn't have the discipline to stay on the ground or out of foul trouble like AD did.
