Chad Knaus and car chief Ron Malec suspended for six races and Jimmie Johnson docked 25 driver points as well as Jeff Gordan 25 owner points.

I agree with Chad Knaus and Ron Malec but I don't think Jimmie or Jeff should have been docked points. This happened before the car even hit the track.

What do yall think??

Might have lucked out if they turn out to be the six most violent races

I think it's more about this team being repeat offenders. Chad's obviously not afraid to push the boundaries. Shouldn't affect them I wouldn't think, they'll still qualify for the chase.

I completely agree with the repeat offenders but I don't think the points should have been taken away from Jimmie. The offense happened before the car even made it out to the track. But Chad has been pushing the limits for too long and this is the third time they have been caught. He deserves what he got.

It absolutely should affect Jimmie. If Nascar really wants to put a stop to this crap, they'll start suspending the drivers, too. You take away the drivers, and you'll get the attention of the sponsors. Get to the sponsors, and you've got the owners, etc., etc..

Why should the driver be suspended? His job is to drive the car as it's set up.

Because with the driver suspended, there's no way a team is going to win the championship. That's the only thing a team like that one cares about. That's the only way you'll get their attention.

After thinking this over, Jimmie can't afford to have a DNF over the couple of weeks. Although his team will have enough speed to qualify, there's a possibility of that team being out of the top 35 in owner's points with the newly structured points system.

Fans show up for the drivers. Suspending one because his crew chief is trying to bend the rules is the dumbest thing I've heard.

I wonder if NASCAR will ever think about banning someone for getting caught cheating too many times. You would think that some point they would have to consider it or else it would just get out of control.

Some of you must be new racing fans. It appears that many are trying to compare bending the rules in Nascar to MLB or some other sport. There's not a team in Nascar that wouldn't take Chad Knaus tomorrow if he wanted to switch teams. Any crew chief worth a damn in the garage is doing the same things just maybe not to the extent of Knaus.

The penalty is a little harsh considering Nascar didn't bother putting the template on the car to check it before deeming it illegal.

I didn't know until last night that they didn't put the template on the car to check it. I was watching Wind Tunnel and Dave Despain seems to think all this stems from the conversation Chad and Jimmie had on the radio at 'Dega. Dont' know if everyone is fimilar with it or not but the jist of it is, Chad told Jimmie if they won the race Jimmie had to tear the back of the car up before it went through inspection.

If the car doesn't pass inspection pre weekend, fix it and move on. I could see a penalty if he passed initial inspection and then failed pre race or post race inspection.

When does he start serving it? I know he appealed the ruling and was working last weeks race

Everything I have been reading lately has said that they will either reduce the suspensions or nothing at all. Not sure how true this is but it would be huge for their team and kind of a black eye on NASCAR if nothing happens

I don't think it's a big deal either way. I guess I can see the reasoning for the fines, but not the pts.

The appeal was upheld today. Hendrick has sent in another one, however. Jimmie Johnson will be at Bristol.
