Goes after a big time PG for next season?

My personal thought is the PG position is all that is holding us back from being that 2 or 3 spot in SEC. And it's nothing against Trae because PG isn't his natural position. With a true PG we can move Trae to shooting guard cause the kid can obviously shoot when he has his feet set and he's quick enough to beat people off the dribble. So are there any PG's out there that we can go after and have a chance of landing?

For 2012? No, that's ship has sailed.

For 2013? I don't know, Landry (to me) is big time college point guard. Is he John Wall or Brandon Knight? No, but I love everything about his game.

For 2014? Depends on Landry's development.

First off its just way too late in the game to try and get a big time guy. But with that said...

The lack of production and scoring from the 2 and 3 is a bigger concern than the PG play IMO.

Your best hope is that Cory Stanton finds his junior year of high school game and balls out here next year. That would allow Trae to slide to the 2 as you are suggesting.

Remember too, this is traes first year with CCM and first year playing the point, would you take what he's given from a freshman PG? I would. I think well see him put in a lot of PG work in the offseason and be a much better PG for us next year.

Everyone just needs to accept that Trae is going to be our PG for the next 2 years, barring a major major pickup.

Here's what I just don't get about it, how many here would like Teague as their PG?

Go look the numbers are IDENTICAL, with trae shooting better and scoring more. Teague gets looked at as such a good player though because he's a frosh, well IMO trae basically is to.

The guy didn't play hardly at all last year, didn't even know really what position he'd play last year. This is Traes first full yer playing PG, and in his first year is putting up better numbers than this freshman everyone drools over.

I get the dumb plays and blah blah blah, but I just don't get all the hate and asking for someone else. Who the heck do people think is gonna come in and in THEIR FIRST year will be light years better than Trae?

Like I said that says it all to me. I'm sure 90% of the people on this board who are wanting someone else if you asked them and they answered honestly would beg for teague to be our PG. as I said look at the numbers, Traes are better.

i get the dumb mistakes as i said, but that is part of being young. stokes makes mistakes, josh makes mistakes, hell even maymon makes mistakes. it is a kid in his 2nd year and 1st at probably the most difficult position in the sport, and imo is doing a pretty damn good job with all things considered.

go ahead and call me a golden lover i know its coming!!!

In order for Trae to play on the next level he is going to have to learn the point guard position. He has improved some, but still has a ways to go.

I would expect CCM to look towards the JUCO ranks for a PG for next season.

And damn, Altidore is getting annoying a hell with his Trae Golden hate. That post is the definition of trolling.

Good lord... Trae is in the top 5 in virtually every single statistic for PG's in the SEC, and top 2 for several of those... I completely agree with BTNO on this one. The PG position is not what our biggest need is. Getting production from the wing as far as scoring the ball is a much bigger need. I think McRae is solid and will be a pretty darn good player for us before all is said and done, but he needs a compliment. When McRae and McBee/Tatum produces, we are tough to beat. When none of them show up, we lose. Its that simple IMO

Agree.

Trae is going to be fantastic next year.

Like I said guys I'm not hating on trae he's done a lot of good things this season. I just think he would benefit us much more catching and shooting from the wing cause the kid can hit shots with his feet set.

I think CCM will always "go after" a big time PG. The issue is landing the kid.

Golden lover.:) I agree with you on Trae. The point guard is like the quarteback in football. It doesn't matter how many times the QB lays the ball in perfectly, if the receiver doesn't haul it in the QB is to blame. If we had 2 and 3 scorers it makes the point guard look good because you can't put double teams on him. Our trouble is if McBee isn't hot it seems that our other 2 and 3's go ice cold at the same time. We need another 3 that can light it up. Everybody will be singing about how gifted Trae is next year. I disagree. It may be better for UT(debatable), but it would NOT be better for Trae in the long term

Golden is too small to be a 2 guard in the SEC. He is a PG from here on out. Unless CCM finds a 6-4 PG somewhere.

Having lived through the Ramar Smith era, I kind of like having a PG that can knock down a 3 and shoots 80%+ FT's. I say we keep him where he's at.

I think he's a serviceable PG. He fits the mold of a Lou Williams/Nate Robinson. PG that turns the ball over, but can also shoot the 3 and find the open man. Plus, hes also agressive and that opens the floor up for shooters, or post players.

30 min 11 pts 5 ast 2 to 1stl 4-4ft...

not many PG that are out there we can expect to come in and put up those numbers...

Trae has his bad moments, but so does every other sophomore. It's games like this, and most of his recent games, that make me feel just fine about Trae improving in the off-season and being our PG next year.

i dont think there are many 1st year PG putting up the numbers he is...

2012 class - Think we offered Nino Jackson and would have offered Ray Lee if he hadn't gotten into trouble.
Don't know what happened to Jackson.
Doesn't even list any offers on rivals anymore.
