Just saw this from Cole Cubelic. It helps UGA, does it help us? "The NCAA has issued a one-time blanket waiver, on the FBS level, to exempt postseason participation from the limit of 4 contests a student-athlete may participate in without using a season of competition. The blanket waiver is applicable to FBS postseason games that are played after Dec. 15. "

We are so thin I'm not sure if we are trying to redshirt anyone. Not a lot of redshirting real talent in the SEC I'd say. This is a move made so teams with a lot of opt-outs can put a team on the field.

Goonie Goo Goo. This new NCAA rule has to have been written to aid and abet either Michigan, Ohio State, Clemson or Bama. Nothing they do is aimed at helping the boys from Ktown, so I say off w their heads.

Some more from that Facebook post "This will come in handy for programs who have promising young players who may need to fill roles to finish the season.
There are several teams facing double-digit departures ahead of their bowl game.
In the SEC, for example, this could help Luke Doty, who is the Gamecocks’ backup QB who has played in 4 games. If South Carolina’s staff wanted to play him they can against Notre Dame without burning his year of eligibility. For Georgia, players who fit into this situation include AD Mitchell, Arik Gilbert, E.J. Lightsey and Julian Humphrey."
So, those who believe this came from the college football swamp to help those who have the most media power and money...you are probably correct.

And this..."Between opt outs and transfers, football teams need some roster flexibility during bowl season, and the NCAA has arrived with some relief. Cole Cubelic first reported the news."

From my perspective this makes the folks in Vegas happy as adding players who might really contribute after the opt-outs...throws the betting odds in a tizzy. Makes for more crazy games with many more unknowns. As far as my Vols are concerned, if we have any players who fall into this category, I would like to know who they are and how they might fit into the line up. Go Vols! Beat Clemson!

NCAA is in complete reactive mode now to NIL, Covid, Covid year, the Transfer Portal, early departures to the NFL, opt-outs, etc. Thus, the NCAA has completely lost control of college football at the P5 level. They make rules after the fact to address what is already happening.

CFP expansion...bowl games are now little more than exhibition games...transfer portal is CFB free agency market...and so on and so forth. The NCAA is doing all it can to hang on to the P5 conferences...and they are failing on all fronts.

Next 2 years will be interesting to watch. It ain't over.

Go Vols.

Ironically, KTown benefitted more than any other program from the extra year of eligibility from covid. Imagine how the conversations would be different on this board without it.

I say just get rid of bowl games all together and just have a 16 team playoff then you don’t have to worry about opt outs

IMHO bowl games shouldn't count against redshirt status with exception of playoff games. All the rest are exhibition/bonus games with a reward of goodies and hopefully decent travel destinations.

Playoffs on the other hand are active portions of the ongoing season with definitive results just like regular season games.
