Hi, all, longtime lurker...

I was listening to one of the local sports talkshows on AM today here in Atlanta, and a caller was whining about "a rude chant the Vols fans were making at Neyland". I watched the game on TV and could hear some type of chant now and then, but couldn't make out the words. Does anyone know what this guy is talking about? (I can't imagine it could be worse than what ga fans do to us at athens, but I'm curious as to what has this guy's panties in a wad.)

Awesome game Sat, enjoyed every minute of it.

When Vinson was down on the ground hurt the Georgia fans started going "GEORGIA.........BULLDOGS........GEORGIA.........BULLDOGS" or something similar. So the students started the "F*** you Georgia" chant.

Same thing they did to Alabama when they were chanting while one of our players were hurt.

Some of the students think it's acceptable to have no class. When Georgia started chanting while we had a man down (which is bad enough on its own) some of our dumba** students decided "F... You Georgia" would be appropriate.

I don't think it was some of the students, I think it was most.

I also don't think that it is classy to chant that, but when Georgia fans are cheering when our player is down (these "dumba**" student's classmate), I am completely fine with it. I sit and smile.

I was at the game and diddnt hear any chants while the player was down in the endzone...What did happen was while the player was laying in the endzone...the Georgia Band started playing the fight song directly at the player....to me that was classless....So If the F*** Georgia chant started because of that...then they deserved it

Also heard an interesting chant during the LSU vs UF game. Thought I heard fans chanting "f*** you... Tebow..."

We spend most of the year talking about how little class other schools have, and how we're some shining beacon of sportsmanship, then we follow it up during the season with garbage. It makes us no better than Florida, Georgia, LSU, or even Rutgers (who, IIRC, were the subject of an ESPN column on their behavior).

Georgia's fans were def. out of line, but it doesn't call for that kinda stuff. I'm sure parents brought their kids to the game to hear that...I mean, hell if 20,000 people are doing it, it MUST be ok. It sets a bad example, and makes us look stupid.

After standing listening to the filth spewed by the guys behind me, who spent the whole game calling the opposing team, fans, band Fa***ts, MotherF****, and every other word, AND doing it TO OUR OWN TEAM, the chant just really put me over the top.

I don't understand how sports has degraded into inappropriate trash talk. You can cheer, boo, yell, scream, jump up and down, but to throw obscenities in what is billed as fanbase that personifies sportsmanship..it's just dumb.

The chant was MUCH louder last year vs. Alabama.

I listened for it, and couldn't hear it as much in the North End Zone.

Other than some people doing that, I don't know what they would be talking about.

There was a brief, O-Ver-Ra-Ted and a Nah-Nah-Nah-Nah-Hey-Hey-Hey-Goodbye chant late.

My tickets are in OO around most visiting fans. They were chanting when Vinson was hurt but you would think the students could be more creative than an F you chant.

I doubt they care about creative. I think they were going for effective.

@jwells: If you think or even expect Tennessee students to show more sportsmanship than any other school in the SEC then you're very naive.

jwells,

I agree with most of what you are saying.

What I want to express is that the Georgia fans cheering when our player was down were fans of all ages - old, young, male, female, students and parents.

Our students were the only ones who responded. I am fine with that. It is their school. Their friend laying on the ground.

I didn't hear anyone else chanting it.

And if you expect to go to a football game and not hear a few f-bombs and the like, you may need to either choose different events to attend or lower your expectations.

Look on the board in the off-season, or even during the season when people post just that. Or listen to our fans saying how better we are as fans than other schools. We've devolved to the point that we are no better.

The stuff the guys around me said weren't just a few f-bombs. It was filth, using obsceneties just for the sake of using them. They added nothing to their points. I use profanity, don't mind hearing it, but it was the way that they used it that was the problem. I don't think you should personally insult people like that...and if nothing else, don't do it to your own team. We were 9 rows up, behind the bench, so I know the players could hear it.

i was in the student section and one of the major chants that was done atleast 5 or 6 times was the change "georgia... Swallows" and it was dont like georgia's chant they do where one section says "Georgia" and then another says "bulldogs" it was kind of funny but ithought it was horrible when georgia started chanting while vinson was down

First of all the student section chanted "F You Georgia" at MORE THAN ONE point in the game. They chanted it before the game, , before Vinsons was hurt, while Vinson was hurt. So to say it was just retaliation for them cheering when Vinson was down is ludicrous. It is ugly and classless, no matter what time it is said.

I've only been cussed out in Neyland twice by opposing fans. The teams were Florida and Georgia. Any chants against them are cool with me.

I agree. I have said before, the seats infront and behind mine are always sold, either to scalpers or online, I don't know. Most of the time it is just regular folks, but more than a few times some idiot rednecks save up for a year and buy the tickets to the game. They spit tobacco juice every where, yell at the ref to stop blowing the game after every play, stand up and signal for a first down after a short run on first down, and still cuss Sanders.

They are the same people who are in front of me at McDonalds that want to order 5 different things all with special instructions, the same people at the movie who yell at the screen, the same people who let their children run around a restaurant screaming at the top of their lungs, and the same people who sit in a parking lot for 20 minutes with their blinker on waiting for someone to pull out of the spot so they don't have to walk an extra 20 feet.

Idiots - and sadly the world is full of them.

I sit pretty close to the students, and I only heard it once.

Well Georgia fans piss on people and pour dipspit on women, so our chant while unappropriate, is no where near the disrespect they show for others in their stadium. I think our students feel the need to protect their own when opposing teams chant while a man is down, and I am ok with it. Not that I think it is right, but I understand. I do wish they could be more creative than F-whoever though.

Wait, so their actions give us an excuse to act like classless morons?
