Chavez says UN should be moved out of NY and put in Venezuela. Oh can we oblige him, pretty please.

What difference does it make where the building is? It's still going to be the same.

Only difference is that if it moves to Venezuela, Caracas gets the numerous unpaid parking tickets.

More importantly, Annan would be out of a job and France would basically be removed from importance in world affairs.

How do you figure? France is quite plugged in with many nations even outside of the UN's domain.

Considering that the US is the biggest factor on the world stage, the only reason that the US ever tries to placate France is because France has veto power in the UN. Remove that and the US does as it pleases and France either comes around to realizing that not everything in the world is there to serve the betterment of the Gauls or they erode away on the world stage.

Bush would never let that happen. I'd imagine no US president would let that happen.
This statement makes the UN sounds as though it were some holy institution that has been around since the days of Genesis. It is barely 50 years old and it has done nothing for the greater good of humanity. The UN will most certainly not be around to see its 150th birthday, if it even makes it to its 100th.

I agree with that too. I was more or less agreeing no US President will make this move anytime soon. I don't see any real leaders in the US making this move at this time.

That statement says nothing of the sort. Good way to take something that doesn't exist out of a statement.

Clearly Bush would be the closest President to a line of thinking to walk from the UN. Even after its peak of corruption, Bush's response was to send Bolton in there to straighten things out. Bolton cannot handle that so the status quo remains. We'll remain to rattle our sabre and threaten veto votes and still nothing is accomplished.

Considering the UN rejected taking action in Iraq, I highly doubt that the UN will survive much longer.
WE THE PEOPLES OF THE UNITED NATIONS DETERMINED
  • to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and
  • to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small, and
  • to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained, and
  • to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom
In the nearly 30 years Saddam was in power, he waged war against the Iranians, the Kuwaiti's, the Kurds, the Iraqi Shi'a, Israel, and Saudi Arabia.

Saddam personally oversaw the torture and execution of hundreds of thoudands of Iraqi's.

Saddam violated every treaty and resolution that concerned Iraq while in power.

And, as we all know, Saddam did wonderful things to promote freedom during his tenure as Iraq's President.

Way to uphold your charter, UN!

Well I will up you one and remind all of a conflict in Korea that to this day is not resolved. It was fought under the UN flag and we see that 53 years later where we are with N Korea.

Please give Chavez a spot at the U.N. He might be crazy, but that's the most fun I've ever had watcing something from the U.N. Besides, Bush IS the devil.

allvol123 will be along any minute to say something like "why am I not surprised you'd agree with him"...

But yes that was a great time at the UN. It made me want to watch all of the speeches. But no one can fill Hugo's shoes. I have to say that was the most entertaining moment I have seen out of the UN

Hugo Chavez is what would happen if Fidel Castro and Don King had a baby.
