CHIEFS vs EAGLES Official SUPER BOWL LIX Discussion Thread

Allen better hope Mahomes retires soon. Or he will likely never see a Super Bowl.
He'll likely get his moment to try (like Manning). Mahomes isn't going to play in 13 straight Super Bowls.

The bigger thing, personally, is it's probably not going to be until more of those defenders along that defensive line finally price out of keeping-the-Chiefs-under-the-salary-cap range. Getting rid of higher contract CBs bought some more time, but eventually Chris Jones, etc (the rest of that line, part of the LB corp), are going to get to the point of hitting a price requesting point where the Chiefs are going to have to start letting some of them go (if they're giving future contracts to Mahomes worth his value). I think it's the combination of Mahomes and that which have made the Chiefs so dangerous/dominant.

This is the greatest run in NFL history.

Patrick Mahomes has lost 3x in the playoffs. Once because Dee Ford jumped off sides. Once because he probably got concussed (Bengals). And then legit got his ass kicked in the SB against the Bucs because they couldn't block anybody.

It's just a phenomenal, unassailable run, and everybody is so mad that nobody can appreciate it. 😄

I get the second part, but the Super Bowl is full of commercials to begin with?
Or are you saying you're expecting a bunch of Taylor Swift commercials now?
I'm expecting more Kermit, Kelce, and Andy.
Huskerdoskerdo crap. Along with much more slobbering

I don’t understand the hatred the Chiefs get, because here’s my perspective. I like the way there’s a QB that’s threatening Tom Brady’s title as “The GOAT.” I couldn’t stand the Patriots, a team that got caught cheating multiple times, and yet people seem to hate the Chiefs even more. It doesn’t make sense to me.

Also because all these guys were liked before they won. Tom Brady was a nobody, then he was a 3x champ as a game manager before he became fun to watch. Chiefs were just a simpathetic franchise in general. Mahomes was a fan favorite, especially among kids, because of the electrifying passing. Andy Reid has always been well-liked and rooted for. The grace period on that quickly ends when you dominate like this.

I still have not seen the definitive shot of this play that proves he had a 1st down. This doesn't prove anything (because it could have been taken before/after he reached the marker), but it does prove we have an angle to capture it, if he did indeed surpass it. But I have not seen a photo circulating from this angle so I kinda assume that he didn't get there.

Also, no idea why the Bills kept doing the exact same sneak with Allen. So stupid. They were all over it, even when he did convert. Hotly contested every time.

Yes, that is the one positive-that Brady will be dethroned. Also Trey Smith. I don’t necessarily hate the Chiefs, but lately they have gone too ‘Hollywood’. I loved Mahommes when he came into the league, but he seems to be getting a much bigger ego these days.

Him fumbling the previous sneak by sticking the ball out probably screwed him on this one. He holding it so tight against his chest haha

I honestly don't hate the Chiefs, aside from the fact that they have been and are currently between my squad and glory.

The seemingly favorable whistles are the primary source of that hate. Jealousy is a factor but it's not the primary reason, imo.

I'm just tired of them. I was tired of the Niners and Cowboys in the 90s. I was tired of the Rams in the late 90s (even though they only won the 1), I got tired of the Patriots. And it's all sports, I used to pull for the Red Sox but after they won a few it was like ok...that's enough. Same with the Bulls when they finally broke through in the 90s.

You can call it jealousy, it's more like fatigue. And yes they get some favorable calls but I'm sure all dynasty teams did. If they went 3-5 years not winning it and then were back in the Super Bowl again I probably wouldn't care as much. But right now for anyone else not a Chiefs fan it's very impressive but kinda getting boring. The greatness will be something you ponder after the fact, in the middle of it it's like "Omg not them again".

Also this year in particular because they seem to not only get some favorable whlstles but just a lot of just plain luck. Yeah I get all great teams have luck but this year seems like they've used about 3 seasons worth.

Probably more recency bias. People really hated the Patriots, so I'm not sure it's worse. I mean there are still a lot of people that hate Brady. Also there's the whole Taylor Swift angle which some feel the NFL is (rightfully) milking some. Which leads into I think people are growing tired of Kelce, he used to be popular but now with Swift and all his antics seem to be getting old. He kinda comes across as more of a douchebag than he used to and with his brother there's kind of Kelce overkill right now.

I don't, it's consistent with pretty much everything in America, a band gets big and suddenly there's hatred, movie star, etc.

Chiefs fan approval!

The thing is people take a Chiefs win like that and call them lucky, and yeah, every win has an element of luck to it, but did anybody feel like Buffalo was the better team? There were 3 fumbles and the Bills recovered all of them. That's luck.

Chiefs were better on yards per play, yards per pass, more first downs, better rate of converting 3rds and 4ths, better job of staying out of 3rd down and 4th down. Better on special teams. Yeah, the Chiefs got one huge call, but they were the better team.

A big part of the Chiefs hate is simply the perception, right or wrong, that you have to beat them and the refs. Mahomes plays the game, including the rule book, like a maestro. A big part of his success is his raw intelligence (but that’s another topic).

As a frequent reader of several fan boards, there is a major sense among the broader NFL fan base that the league has, somewhat legitimately, legislated away any true kryptonite the Chiefs may have. They’ve never had to overcome their Bad Boy Pistons, because the league has extinguished that possibility in the first place.

Not saying I agree or disagree with that. It’s just the vibe I pick up on.
