Special Report: China's gene giant harvests data from millions of women

U.S. government advisors warned in March that a vast bank of genomic data that the company, BGI Group, is amassing and analysing with artificial intelligence could give China a path to economic and military advantage. As science pinpoints new links between genes and human traits, access to the biggest, most diverse set of human genomes is a strategic edge. The technology could propel China to dominate global pharmaceuticals, and also potentially lead to genetically enhanced soldiers, or engineered pathogens to target the U.S. population or food supply, the advisors said

Well, if nothing else, they’ve got everyone pulling the cart in the same direction while we’re focused on pulling the cart apart into a billion splinters with the constant grievances du jour.

Correction, their oppressive government has stamped out all vocal opposition

I don't understand viruses like many here may but is there any way covid could have been some kind of dry run? If it's possible how likely would you think it is?

And the democratic party is stuck on the Russia greatest threat hoax and insurrection bs. Russia is a threat too. Six months into this administration...3 1/2 to go. Only the midterms give us any hope if any at all.

Despite what the reports are and what our government say, the Chinese strongly deny this. I mean, I don't see why it would be....
It could be misinformation, it could be legit. Welcome to the new Cold War era.

The bad thing is we don't have leadership on either side of the isle capable of leading us through it. Maybe in 3+ years

China has also been buying and/or hacking into Ancestry.com and similar genetic testing companies in order to steal their genetic databases on Americans. I'm sure it's nothing to be concerned about though. After all, China strongly denies that they have nefarious uses in mind for all this American genetic data.

I’m way mored frightened of what the US government could do to me than the Chinese government.
China can use this data to wage biomedical warfare on us, but I'm sure that's nothing to worry about. China would never do such a thing.

From the article, "Beijing made clear in a 2019 regulation that genetic data can be a national security matter, and since 2015 it has restricted foreign researchers from accessing gene data on Chinese people. In contrast, the United States and Britain give foreign researchers access to genetic data, as part of open science policies."

Nothing of concern here at all.
