Premier basketball prospect commits to Vols

KNOXVILLE — Wayne Chism of Bolivar, Tenn., one of the top-rated power forwards in the country, said today he has committed to Tennessee Coach Bruce Pearl after paying an unofficial visit to the UT campus on Friday.

The 6-foot-9, 230-pound Chism was part of Bolivar Central High’s state championship team last season. He is rated the No. 10 power forward prospect in the country and the No. 42 overall prospect Rivals.com.




Chism joins combo guard Marques Johnson of Fort Wayne, Ind., as early commitments to UT. The Vols are one of six schools in the country with two or more commitments rated among the top 55 prospects in the country by Prep Star publication.

Maybe people won't smirk when I pull for the Men's team now, I always have to remind people about the Lady Vols. Hopefully the men can make us proud

A clean sweep of Memphis is too much to ask for but it would be nice and really get the B'ball team moving in the riht direction. Calipari might be getting a little nervous!

I was just reading that he averaged 13 points, 10 rebounds and 7 blocks his Junior year and he can play defense. Not bad at all.

Also, they said that one of his teammate's might want to go to the same school. Willie Kemp, who is a 6'2 170 pound combo guard and is ranked #6 nationally by scout at his position.

I think this is just the tip of the iceberg for Pearl and company. At least I hope it is. :rock:

Can you imagine what kind of recruiting year we would be having right now if Billy's boy was staying with TN. It may have been the best class in the nation or close to it....maybe it still can be...Man!..I gotta get my tickets!

This is huge! Chism is a going to be a great player and he fits Pearl's system. This class is already great with Chism and Johnson. They are going to sign fiver players. So, once you add the likes of possibly Willie Kemp, Brandon Powell, Verice Cloyd and this could be a top 10 class nationally. THAT is something UTK has not had in a very, very long time. If ever! I think Pearl has the program headed in the right direction and I'm excited to see the start of the season. We are still on Young's list as well. Is he a possible get? Wow, wouldn't that be something. And, to top it off these kids are more than just good ball players, they seem like they are good kids as well.

P.S. Come on Willie, you know you want to follow Wayne to Knoxville and make something special happen on campus.

this could be special. johnson and chism already with a good chance at kemp. if ut offers powell, we could have powell, johnson, chism, and possibly kemp. and with kemp, powell, and kemp, thad young might decide to come to ut with a bunch of his west tn buddies.

if anyone with a scout subscription could read the article where Tony Jones talks about getting another top recruit and either summerize or send it to me..that'd be super.
