I know very few people care about this, but this is a pretty big deal around here. Hatcher has been a little radioactive since being on Hal Mumme's staff at Kentucky, but since then he's won a Division II title at Valdosta State and has been rumored for everything from Florida State Offensive coordinator to La Tech head coach. Not too bad being that he's only 35.

The previous coach was Brian Van Gorder (former UGA defensive coordinator). He left after only one year to join Bobby Petrino's staff as a LB coach for the Atlanta Falcons.

Whats up with that? Why did he just stay one year? Did he leave UGA to take that head coaching job?

No, he spent 1 (maybe 2) years as an Assistant with the Jacksonville Jaguars before he took the GSU job. I honestly didn't understand why he took the job in the first place. Georgia Southern is like the Division 1AA version of Tennessee when it comes to expectations.

Great news for all of us who follow the Eagles. High flying O is back in the Boro. Hatcher is the real deal. I was really hoping CPF would give him a look before Cut was hired.

More than one Kentucky fan was hoping the same when we were looking for an OC.

I must admit that Joker has done better than expected. But the collection of skill players that UK has these days are the best I have seen since living here. He should get credit for the way he has used Tamme so effectively.

Prediction: Hatcher will be a head coach in a major conference in the next 5 years.

Wouldn't surprise me, and I'll go so far to say that he'll surpass another Mumme disciple, Mike Leach of Texas Tech, pretty quickly.

I agree about Joker Phillips. He's stepped in and done admirably. I was doubtful at first, but he does know how to get it in the hands of some really talented skill players. I'm just glad that Keenan Burton decided to come back for his senior season. :dance2:

Hatcher still has some of Mumme in him. Today at his press conference he told everybody to look out because the "Hatch Attack" was coming to Statesboro.

I read to day that he said he is going to run the option with all of the pitches going forward

I attended VSU while the Hatch-Attack was going on. He's an excellent coach- and spoiled us while he was there. I agree with the prediction of Hatcher being at a major program in about 5 years.
