64 team college football playoff. Something that will never happen in anyone's lifetime.

Can't imagine the kind of attrition you'd see in that type of post season, with up to 6 games. Watching third team running backs against second team d-lineman and LBs in the championship game would be a little anti-climactic.

Hopefully it never gets anywhere close to that. The more teams you add to a playoff the less meaningful the regular season games become. If you lose more than 1-2 games you should be out

Yep, this is what makes college football superior to any other sport at any level. There is immense pressure on literally every single game you play.

64 is excessive and completely useless. Prefer eight, but expect it to be at least twelve eventually.

I think the 64 best football programs should be formed into a separate league. It would be comprised of four 16 team conferences with two divisions each. Division winners would only be determined by games within the division. Three additional games would be schedule within the conference. The last two would be scheduled against one of the other conferences.

At the end of the season the division winners of each conference would play what amounts to a first round of the playoffs. The four conference winners would then play a two round playoff.

I think that answers the questions and eliminates a lot of the lingering unfairness.

I already hate the 12-team playoff. They are going to destroy college football, just like they did college basketball.

There's no reason for more than 4 teams in the playoff. None. There's never been a #5 or #11 team that was deserving of the national title. It's just a stupid money-grab.

Totally agree. We’re already diluting the SEC with the addition of TX and OU. Really never liked Mizzou being in the conference. Didn’t mind aTm as much. SCar and Arkansas were good fits, but that’s where it should end unless it’s another true “southern” school. We’re losing our identity as a conference on this path.

You'd clearly cut out some regular season games. Those 3 puff cake games are gone.

So you'd go down to 9 reg season games. Bowl teams would get a 10th. Just like football was for decades.

Currently the champ (assuming they play for their conference title) plays 15 games. In this format they would also play 15 games. Other teams would play 9-14.

...not advocating for it, just grasping at how it could work to play devil's advocate. I don't mind 8-16 though. It makes the regular season much more important for many teams. Currently unless you're in the top 6 or 7 down the stretch, it's season over. Guys sit...fanbases lose interest. Take it to 8 or 16 and suddenly you have up to 30 teams down the backhalf playing their minds out and it makes things very exciting for a lot of fanbases. Js. 8 is the sweetspot imo.

Go to 16 team playoff. No need for conference champ game to get in smaller format. So 16 teams play that wk. 8 instead of 4 the wk of current semis. 4 play the old championship wk and 2 play one more game than current champ today. Big whoop.

Worst case you may end up with an east champ and a West champ instead of THE champ. I can live with that since it puts the big game in play for both. Heck ther will be 8 teams and we only had 10 for years.

That's sort of like the last guy off the bench facing the last reliever in extra innings of the 7th game of the World Series.
