I was listening to a radio station that was talking about the persecution of Christians in Egypt. One of the guest said that muslim men would go up complete strangers on buses and grab their arms to look for tattoed crosses (apparently christians tattoed a blue cross on their to show their faith).

The guest said that if they found a man or woman with the tattoo, they would use pepper spray in their face or try to pour acid on their arms to get rid of the tattoo. He said this has been been going since before 2008, but it's rarely reported.

I thought it was very interesting.

so some guy said it on the radio and it's 100% true? Have a link to any story saying this is widespread?

Not sure the above mentioned is true but the Christian population still faces oppression but not to the extent of other Islamic countries.

I have a buddy who lives in Egypt and is Christian and says that there is no persecution of any kind. He also said that there is not any sort of rioting or government instability of any kind, it must be American propoganda.

the guest is a Christian who is from egypt so i took his word for it. He said that Christians had to stop going out and riding the bus for a while until it died down. He said Christian that converted from islam were the ones who were seeked out.

after reading about that American exchange student that was nearly starved to death by Coptic Christian host parents, I'm not too impressed by Egypt's Christian minority. Granted, it's an isolated, anecdotal story, but since we seem to have a penchant for painting with broad brushes...

I would want some objective evidence of this before I concluded anything. Reporting on some radio station, which is probably a conservative if not Christian-oriented station, does not impress me. Especially when it is joevol who likes to portray all Muslims as anti-Christian, referring to having just happened to have caught a story about this on a station "talking about the persecution of Christians in Egypt."

Does not have much credibility, imo.

you're right, it isn't as impressive as MSNBC's real journalists

There was some bad persecution in the name of Islam against Christians throughout the Middle East in the 70s, no doubt. One of my best friends is an Iraqi Chaldean and his family was friends with a Coptic family they met in Detroit before all moving down to Knoxville in the late 80s. Both fled during similar periods (mid 70s) for the same reason. However, the reasons aren't as flat lined as you think. The Chaldeans were targeted by the Ba'athists because they controlled a large percentage of industry in Iraq (as well as money). It was a political targeting more than it was religious.

Also, Egypt is quite moderate now. My proxy friends have returned to Egypt many times (wearing crosses) and haven't had any problems. The recent attacks are by Al Qaeda, not Muslim civilians. The Egyptians do not support the targeting of Christians and have acted out against this by forming human shields to allow prayer to take place.

Please take facts, not hyperbole, as a basis for your opinions. Both families have been closely following the Egyptian revolt and, along with what Reuters and Al-Jazeera have reported feel that they're heavily secular and the persection of Christians are a strong feeling in the revolt (multiple demonstrators are calling for a more Westernized freedom of religion in addition to many other Westernized freedoms).

LG, you criticize anything that goes against your marxist agenda. I wouldn't expect you to believe that your muslim brothers would do this. at least you're defending some type of faith.

Gotta love people treating each other badly because they don't agree on the details about the big guy in the sky.

Well, you distort, exaggerate, and hate anything that goes against your whacked out, uber-conservative/Judeo-Christian world view. I wouldn't expect you to crawl outside of your tiny box and logically form your own opinion about something. At least your ideology is confined to your swivel chair.

From the guy that said he promised to never act his age. Lol.

But in all seriousness, joevol is much more childish that DF, even if DF has had his moments.

Oh, I never said I wasn't childish.

JoeVol isn't childish though. He is just has his view and is very very conservative. DF just says crap to say crap though. there is a difference.

Granted this post is coming from Mr 99% over here.

My kids are 5 and 4 and will be outgrowing me in the next 3 years. I'm cool with that though.

I love how this thread has become a discussion of my maturity level on a g'damned forum. It's even more indicative of yours than it is mine... just so you know. I would like to sincerely apologize for satirizing a childish response given by joevol. I should have just called him a kid since, apparently, that's the adult thing to do.

This is a message board. Everyone here is saying crap just to say crap. Anyone who believes otherwise needs to let their keyboard cool off.
