Not gonna happen.

Rees would just be setting himself up for failure. Saban would make sure he never got another gig after NW fired him.

Best bet for this season for NW is just go the John L Smith interim route and hire who you want in December

Saban is actually famous for kicking assistants out the door when a HC job comes knocking, but Saban will not want to hire a new OC so close to fall practice.

The name that automatically came to mind for the Northwestern job is Paul Chryst. He's right there, sitting at home, and too young to retire. They could never do better for a coach.

Why would you want him to leave? This is by far Saban’s worst OC hire at Alabama.. I hope he stays!

Oh, I agree and thats why this is a win-win. He's a horrible hire with no SEC experience, although if he leaves 2 months out?.........Alabama is going to begin to spiral even more and they'll find no one worth their salt this close to season. Either way is a win.

Northwestern would be crazy to make a permanent hire before the season. No reason to rush at this point and make the wrong hire. (Dooley 2010) A lot of candidates wouldn’t take a job at this point in the year so best to wait until dominoes start falling. Coaches will start getting canned by week 3. I’d take my time and go with an interim. However, Chryst, as someone mentioned, would be an exception to this as he’s a proven guy available now. That would be a great hire.

Why would anyone get anywhere near that job even a year from now? Unless they offer huge amounts of money there’s no reason for a coach worth a damn to go near that place.

N'western's problem is they really need a coach like Fitz, in terms of the ties to the school, to replace him. Those guys don't grow on trees. It worked well for Stanford with David Shaw. It's what Vandy is trying to do with Clark Lea.

You have to really love that place to coach there. No mercenary-type coach is going to go there. It seems like they need a guy with previous ties to the school, or the area at the very least, and if they can't do that try and hire someone from one of the really strong academic schools. Dave Clawson has been linked to the job, but I don't know why he'd leave Wake at this stage in his career.

They brought up Shaw here on local sports radio as a guy that can change the culture at NW and get it back in the right direction. Before that though they desperately need to clean house completely asap.

Got to think if you are an upper classman hitting the transfer portal from NW you aren't going to find a home.

Coaches are arrogant, they are going to take a job that pays good money no matter what. Most cia do we don’t look at a job as something they can’t fix, but if they don’t, they got paid big and didn’t get it done because it was a tough job, so no damage done to their republicans.
