Can we come to the conclusion that the absolute worst day to go eat Mexican is ironically on Cinco De Mayo and that ANY other day of the year is the best to eat at a Mexican restaurant?

Truth be told the last couple years I've actually gotten a table on Cinco De Mayo I honestly don't remember seeing any hispanic people eating dinner there.

Your thoughts?

Cinco de Mayo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Some historians have argued that France's real goal was to help break up the American Union, at the time in the midst of a civil war, by helping the southern Confederacy.

Donald W. Miles states, "At the time, there were fears in the United States that the French would use Mexico as a base to back the Confederacy, so President Lincoln and his Secretary of State went out of their way to appear 'neutral' in the Mexican situation. They did not want to take on the French and the Confederates at the same time".[31] Dr. Miles goes on to explain that "Napoleon III had hesitated to take on the United States directly, but now the news of the Civil War changed everything".[32] It meant that the Americans would be occupied with their conflict between North and South for some time. Upon hearing the Spaniards and the British had sailed off to grab the customs house in Veracruz to start collecting their duties, Napoleon decided he would not only send the French navy, but would also start looking for someone to place as emperor in Mexico. He would then use Mexico as a base to help the Confederates win their war against the United States. Napoleon saw this as an opportunity not to be missed.[32]

Historian Justo Sierra has written in his Political Evolution of the Mexican People, that had Mexico not defeated the French in Puebla on May 5, 1862, France would have gone to the aid of the South in the U.S. Civil War and the United States' destiny could have been very different.[33][34]

Ignacio Gonzalez wrote, "Some scholars, including José Antonio Burciaga, believe that had the French defeated México at Puebla, France would have aided the South in the American Civil War in order to free Southern ports of the Union Blockade. During this time, Confederate General Robert E. Lee was enjoying success, and French intervention could have had an impact on the Civil War."[22]

Hey now! Don't get upset I was just stating an observation I had made. Italians are slightly harder to spot and often times "unspottable" despite the rumors they all don't look like Vinnie.

Cinco de Mayo is nothing more than an excuse for North American college students to drink excessive amounts of Mexican made alcohol and post selfies to twitter/Instagram/and facebook.

Its also provided an excuse for "that guy" in your office to jokingly ask every single co-worker of Hispanic descent "Hey amigo, whaddaya doin here today?"

If Hallmark could profit off it, it would be truly American.

Ok, so I ended up at my favorite local mexican restaurant, mind you only because someone else insisted and went through all the trouble of snatching up a table early in the evening.

I deliberately scanned the entire restaurant and there wasn't a single Hispanic person there other than the servers. This was just for my own confirmation I guess.

I didn't notice any major celebrations this evening. There were multiple major street closures in Nashville for st. Patrick s day but i saw Nonesuch tonight. The only thing I did notice was a line of cars about a block and a half long waiting for the valet at the midtown Chueys. Anecdotally just about every car in that line was full of black people and I never see very many black people at any of the Mexican restaurant s I frequent, including that Chueys.

Never ate at that one but I love the Chueys in the 'boro. Their creamy jalapeño dip is some darn good stuff.
