I know that our Coach isn’t a real rah rah guy.
I actually kind of appreciate that.
But he will address the team right before the kickoff.
I’m wondering if he will mention how many Vol fans have come to Columbus and how great that is and how he hopes the team rewards them.

You wanna see how it’s done, watch Lou Holtz address the Irish before their “Convicts vs Catholics” game. It’s an espn 30/30- I’m sure you can find it - I’m too lazy. But it’s Hollywood level good.

He just needs to stand in front of them in the locker room, look at them with an intense stare and shout, "WGWTFA, you feel me?"

CJH's mantra is and will be "We don't have to do anything sensational, we just have to do the ordinary things at a high level!" Then they'll recite General Neyland's 7 game maxims and slap the 'I'll give my all Tennessee today' sign above the locker room door as they hit the field. That's all they need! GBO

I mean, sure? I guess. No need to be dramatic. They all know what's at stake and I think they know how diehard the fans are. Heupel will know what he wants to say and how he wants to say it.

Now that said, there was some old story, I can't remember which coach, but some famous coach who came in before a big game for his team, and sat and waited on the bench. The whole team was sitting there watching the clock count down, and the coach said nothing. Clock kept counting. Players started to fidget. Coach said nothing. The clock kept counting. Nothing but silence. Clock kept counting. No one wanted to go up and interrupt the coach or speak up (I know it was some famous coach, just can't remember who). So everyone sat. The clock kept counting.

Finally, after a half hour of sitting and waiting, the clock hit 00:00. The coach stood up, looked at everyone in the locker room, and said in a normal voice - "let's go kick their asses." The players erupted like a volcano and went out and did just that.

The funny thing is, I think, after the fact, I want to say the coach said later on he had nodded off waiting for the game to start, which is why he was quiet the whole time.

I wish I could remember who it was. Anyway.

I trust Coach Heupel to communicate with HIS guys. I think it is one of his strengths.

Maybe you should write a pre-game speech for him. Write out what YOU think HE should say to HIS players. Im sure it wont come across as a crappy straight to tv movie.

Johnny Majors pregame speech before Miami game in 86 sugar bowl was the best most profound speech ever. They were already prepared and he knew it, but he summarized it with the perfect pregame speech. GBO

Sounds like something Coach Vince Lombardi might have done.

“Alright men, let’s take it to them from kickoff to the post game flag planting. Do it for Volnation.com so the mods don’t accidentally start deleting things mid game.”

I would say Coach Heupel should give the speech that Coach Brooks gave before the 1980 U.S. olympic ice hockey team beat the Russians…”These guys are like a pro team. We are a team of college all stars. If we played these guys 10 times, chances are we lose 9 times. Not tonight. They’re not going to beat us tonight…not tonight.”
