Yesterday, Biden made a statement saying that in one month we spend more money on the war in Iraq than we do in one year on the war in Afghanistan. I have yet to look at the numbers, however, if one knows anything about the two situations, it is easy to understand.
Afghanistan is a light infantryman's war.
The heavy brigades (armor) are being sent to Iraq. An M1 Abrams tank uses 500 gallons per every 24 hours that it idles. Bradley's use quite a bit of fuel also. A tank that idles (which they have to be on and idling in order to use the the turret and the gun systems) costs more money per day to run than it costs the Army to pay a private for a month.
Unless Obama and Biden want to send armor to Afghanistan, which is pretty much useless, then this trend will most certainly continue.
