WASHINGTON -- Members of the inner circle of high-ranking House Republicans privately agree that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York is an absolute lock for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination and will not be easy to defeat in the general election.

The same lawmakers believe the Republican race to oppose Clinton is wide open but regard Sen. George Allen of Virginia as having the edge over Sen. Bill Frist of Tennessee. The consensus among them is that Allen is a better candidate than Frist and will the advantage over him in GOP primaries. The House members see little or no prospect for former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Sen. John McCain of Arizona or Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

The Clinton-vs.-Allen forecast by the leading House members duplicates the National Journal's poll of insiders from both parties.

Well, it is against my nature to rule her out this early without giving her the benifit and listening to what she has to say, but "based on previous events", I would have to say that I hope you are right LIO.

The only one of those people I would EVER vote for is John McCain.

2008 will be the first Presidential Election I get to vote in, and I get this crap. :shakehead:

I would like to see McCain and Rudy run as Independants and let Hillary run against the Frist/Allen winner and then vs the Rudy/McCain winner and actually bring about a third choice. It woud be someone that was pretty much republican or liberal leaning, but atleast it would set the stage for a "third" person running.

That whole moving to Canada thing reminded me of something... During the '04 election, people threatened to move to Canada if Bush got elected, and Bushies called them traitors.

I wonder if all the conservatives will threaten to move out of the country if Clinton gets elected. If they do, I will have a good hardy laugh at the hypocrisy of the conservatives I know and see on tv.

Didn't say you were. I never saw you berating anybody for threatening to move out of the country because of Bush's reelection.

And FYI, I would hate Clinton as a president as well.

Me either, la.lovesorange!! Middle Eastern countries will NOT deal with a woman the way they will with a man and even if they did, Hilary Clinton is NOT the woman for the job. If she DOES run, I will devote every spare minute to making sure I do my part to see she does not get elected. This country has had enough of the Clintons.

Well, if people thought the country was divided after this past election, just wait until Hillary runs! You can tell she is gearing up for the nomination already. She has softened her liberal stances and begun moving more toward the center. I, as a conservative, hope she gets nominated. There is no way she wins plus all the Clinton's dirty little secrets get thrown out again.

LIO, I'm w/ you and will work even harder than I did for Bush. I just hope there's a viable alternate to her. McCain and Rudy would surely be a ticket to invest my efforts.
