CLK articles in Florida

Thanks for the articles. Good reads.

Don't want to rehash the past, but I totally agree with Jupiter coach Persson in that Steve Spurrier was just as bad at calling out other schools, in particular Georgia and Tennessee. Remember when Spurrier was asked about Georgia and he responded back with the question, "Is Ray Goof still the coach up there?" (His name was actually Ray Goff). Back then it was laughed off, but that same pass was not given to CLK. Glad someone down in Florida recognizes that.

Nice to see that our staff is laying the groundwork for recruiting classes for the next 2-3 years.

Wonder what Kiffin said to Elam to make the source say "he is a hell of a saleman." Elam would make the loss of Berry a little easier to deal with for sure.

The context of that quote was him saying, "I'm not saying anybody broke any rules; I'm just saying there was a feeling of, well, those kids are driving awfully nice cars. How's it happen?" -- Steve Spurrier, in a 1995 Sports Illustrated article, one year after telling boosters that FSU stood for "Free Shoes University."

Maybe CLK should add some humor next time like CSS.

He also poked fun at a fire that burned 20 books at an Auburn University football dorm, saying; "But the real tragedy was that fifteen hadn't been colored yet!"

And said "In 12 years at Florida, I don't think we ever signed a kid from the state of Alabama"; But then he immediately added the punch: "Of course, we found out later that the scholarships they were giving out at Alabama were worth a whole lot more than ours."

"Their pass defense was No. 1 in the nation coming in, but it won't be going out."
-- Spurrier, after handing Mississippi State a 52-0 loss in September

Thanks for sharing these. Even when I wanted to hate the guy back in the 90s, I couldn't. I just liked his style too much. Spurrier at his prime was the best, on the field and off it. Glad to see Kiffin being compared to him. I hope he measures up (I'm very optomistic).

I watched Avery Young tonight. The 2012 OT from Palm Beach Gardens that Kiffin was checking in on.

He's very talented, and most importantly, big and super athletic. 6'5" 260 (not the 282 the artice says), and is constantly pulling and being the lead blocker down the field from his LT position. Long limbed kid, that obviously will get a lot bigger (not sloppy).

Here is an article I did with him before tonight's game. Don't mind the Gator logo, it's his HS's logo.

After smashing Vandy in a half filled stadium in Nashville, he told the reporters, it's Vandy something good must be on TV!
