I am very disgusted with what at the very least cost us having the game go into overtime.

I have gone back and watched the last 6min again and here is what I found.

We had a 1st down just shy of mid field with 6:22 left. Below is when we snapped the ball.

1st and 10. Snapped at 6:22 with 31secs left on the play clock.

2nd and 5. Snapped the ball with 15secs left on the play clock.

3rd and 1. Snapped the ball with 5sec left.

4th down punt was snapped with 10sec left.

THAT'S 1:01 EXTRA TIME WE LEFT THEN TO GO 90+ YARDS.

They got the ball at 4:16 when it should have been 3:15. HUGE DIFFERENCE.

Was the game clock moving during this times you have above. Play clock doesn't mean crap if game clock isn't moving.

They had 3 timeouts. It wouldn't have mattered.

TD was scored with 16secs left and they only had 1 TO at that point.

If would have put them in a hurry up situation which would very likely have been uncomfortable.

I agree if you are going to play conservative you have to use as much clock as possible.

It definitely would've been a different looking drive. But they had some success throwing it on that last drive.

Hell anybody can win if they can go back in time and see what the other team does. Are you out of Jr. High yet?

Huh???

I was screaming when it happened, "run the damn clock". That's why I went back to get the exact numbers.

Just a guess but I bet you had no idea WTH was going on??

I have seen some very unwarranted criticism about the staff last night and wanted to bump this tread for what was IMO the only real glaring mistake that was made last night by the staff.

Might have mattered if they had no timeouts left to challenge the spot on the field, this has been a problem in several games, just cause a team has time outs, don't mean you don't make them use them.

To me the Problem I have had with CBJ is his inability to pull peterman out in the first half of the FL game when he was not ready to play and got hurt, Didn't Pull JW out in the 1st halt of the AL game when he got hurt. And last night, he did not have a QB ready to play in the cold weather. That is Inexcusable IMO when NP and RF was ready to go. All the redshirts in the world will not help him get more Obama Bucks when he is out of a job.

The biggest problem on that last drive was Dobbs checking off to run wide on 3rd down and 1. This brilliant move lost 2 yds.

This thread is exactly what I was screaming in the stands. Bruin, was that the only series in the last drive...I can't remember. I thought UT got 2 first downs. I'm sure the snaps came too quickly on those too. A brilliant point was brought up that if they had to burn their time outs, they could not challenge. But they would've been in much more of a hurry-up as well, so the play calling would've surely been different. I can't help but think if the staff would've just instructed the team to snap at 2 seconds that the outcome would've been in our favor. As bad as the offense was, this simple instruction could've put up a 'W'.

We had gotten 1 first down before I looked at this clock issue. 1 or 2 plays I think

I don't believe clock managment was that critical. If you watch that last vandy drive, they took their time in between plays.

They were trying to leave no time left on the clock. If they had been left with 3:15 on the clock they would have went at a faster pace, obviously.

3:15 and 3 timeouts is an eternity in a college game, especially when the team is well coached.

I don't completely disagree but forcing a team to go fast that doesn't do it much would have been a good plan. Getting them out of a comfort zone is never a bad thing

I think this should have been the busiest thread on the board last night. It is a great analysis. The hurry up aspect of our offense hasn't really helped all year, IMO. It has been hard to watch at times.

The hurry up doesn't help when you keep going three and out. Take the first half's TOP. We held the ball less than 9 minutes. That's Oregonesque, just 7 points instead of 28. The team has struggled to move the ball, especially with Dobbs, and there's ZERO reason to run hurry up at all if you can't score. The defense played reasonably well, but they'd be a lot fresher if you'd just slow down the snaps. Gotta shorten the game if your offense is mediocre on a good day.

The lack of interest in this thread goes to show very few posters here really even understand real things to criticize.

This is a real problem and must be fixed if this staff is going to win in this league

I was thinking at the time that we should have been using the entire play clock, but I was also concerned that standing there for that duration in between each play could take the air out of our own offensive momentum. If we would have picked up another first down, we probably would have won, regardless of how much time ticked off during that series.
