The awards themselves weren't that bad. I don't care at all for Florida/Georgia Line, but most award winners were "deserving." I use quotation marks because for many of them, I would have picked someone else, but can't gripe about who did win. I'm not really a fan of her music, but I always laugh at the people who gripe about Taylor Swift winning stuff and then cheer on rock acts in country. As I posted on my fb, Taylor Swift's music often includes banjos, mandolins and fiddles, as DAC says, "If that ain't country, you can kiss my ***." She's very young to receive such an award, but no one has taken over country music like she has since a certain Oklahoman did in 1989.
I really liked seeing Kacey Musgraves win new female. She's completely country and that's refreshing. Miranda was the only choice for best female in my opinion. I'm so sick of Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, etc, but at least every fourth or fifth song by Blake is somewhat country. Entertainer of the Year was a no brainer. George had the most coveted country music ticket in the country.
The acts though were terrible. Eric Church sounded like a Nickelback song. The Florida/Georgia Line song was typically terrible. The Urban/Miranda duet was ok. I think Dave Grohl is one of the greatest musical minds of my lifetime and the Zac Brown is played weekly in my cd/mp3 player, but that act was just weird. It could've been a timing thing though. More on that later. Jennifer Nettles was showing off her baby boobies trying to appear more like Kenny Rogers' other half in that duet. To put it simply, Nettles' is from the hills of Georgia, Dolly is from the mountains of East Tennessee. Also, the artists to honor Kenny were awful. Rascal Flats and Darius Rucker? Really? For Kenny Rogers? And we're talking about Kenny Rogers. The man has hits and number one singles spanning 5 decades. He was voted favorite singer of all time back in the '80s. And we got three songs. No "Coward of the County", no "Lucille", no "Lady", no "Daytime Friends", etc. A disgrace and dishonor to him imo.
But the night belonged to the George Strait and Alan Jackson rendition of "He Stopped Loving Her Today" to honor the Possum. I got goosebumps as soon as the first chord was struck on George's guitar. That was phenomenal and moving. So moving I probably didn't give enough attention to the Zac Brown/Dave Grohl song. All those other acts should take notes. Get up there with a guitar, your band behind you and sing country. Country doesn't need wild stage shows, just good music.
Oh, as for the Carrie performance. I was definitely watching, in fact I was mesmerized, but well, uhh, I have no idea what she actually sang or if she even did.
