Is this hypocritical of UK? They discontinued the Beer Barrel back in '98 when one of their football players was killed in an alcohol related auto accident.

I find it strange hocking Cal and the UK name on a whisky bottle. Maybe, it's just me. It would be like CBP or CDD endorsing Glock or Smith & Wesson. Am I wrong? :dunno:

It's a shame they have to ruin a good whisky with a guy that's been at Kentucky for less than a season.

This would annoy me a lot less if they hadn't made us dump the Beer Barrel. Hypocrisy sucks.

I know. Why doesn't somebody address that with the head Mildcat and his cronies?

There is a long tradition of UK coaches endorsing a variety of crap throughout the bluegrass, from Pitino Pasta to Tubby BBQ sauce. Parlaying the insane notoriety that comes with holding the Blue Papacy into licensing dollars is one of the perks that comes with the job.

Yeah, but he's endorsing whiskey while the beer barrel in football was eliminated because of guys dying while drunk.

Indeed. Rich Brooks was on pictured on the bottle a couple years ago. Its just the way of things in this crazed state.

Well, it's better than Cal selling whiskey TO children. :)

The difference is, last time I checked, Cal was over 21.

I really see no problem, though, in the "Barrel," and they should re-institute the thing, even if they have to re-name it. Heck, they already should call it the "Orange-Never-Leaves-Knoxville-Memorial-Trophy." It's a symbol of a victory, not an invitation to kids to go out and get smashed.

Kids going out and getting smashed IS a symbol of victory. And defeat.

IT'S JUST YOU.
This is a limited edition bottle that sells for $50.00 and will never be opened, only collected.
And it is a "BOURBON BOTTLE".

Apparently you have imbibed in the nectar for so long that your cognitive abilities have suffered significantly. Maybe if you dry out things will become clearer.

It isn't that much of a sacrifice to give up a trophy you haven't seen in two decades.

Thus the hypocrisy. It's embarrassing to compete for a trophy that you never win, so the alcohol incident gave UK an excuse to dump it. I'm sure that if UT asked about reinstating it, UK's president would still spew out a wad of pious blather about not wanting to send the wrong message, etc. But yet this is no problem.

But wouldn't it be fun to interrupt him while he was spewing blather when asked about the beer barrel and ask about the Cal whiskey bottle?

"The Makers Mark (tm) commemorative bottle featuring Coach Calipari is clearly a high-end product marketed to adults outside the university community, which sends a completely different message than a trophy called "the beer barrel" being presented to student-athletes. We're confident that there's a clear difference between the two."

See? The BS just writes itself.

Priceless!! The hypocrisy is of epic proportions. Luckily Coach Cal has no connection to "student athletes"..

No, it's your university speaking out of both sides of it's mouth.

"We can't play for the beer barrel, but we can hock Cal's image and the universities name to sell some bourbon." After all, it's for the children of Kentucky. :cray:
