According to what I hear on the radio (correct me if this is incorrect), Pearl will receive $1 million while the assistants get four more month's salary.

Is this fair, particularly to the assistants?

Considering that there's no obligation to pay anything, I'd say it's very fair.

I don't have Pearl's current pay in front of me, but off the top of my head it seems that $1 million is a larger % of his pay than four month's salary. If so, he's getting more in the settlement than the assistants.

Is this fair to them, given the role he played in their termination?

Considering the assistants likely had knowledge of the violations, its more then fair.

For example, Tony Jones was with Bruce for the "bump" violation.

Since they knew about it more than likely........it is more generous than I would have thought.

what could the assistants have done differently if people was indeed the first one to lie? You act like they could've prevented this or saved their jobs somehow. They'd be gone either way.. whether they chose not to back Pearl or to back him as they did.

not true on the Pearl payout

Pearl will be paid at his current salary rate through June 30, 2011. He will also receive $50,000 per month for 12 months, from July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012, and will also receive health insurance costs. This cumulative figure is $948,728.

Good grief! We're so far in the red on paying these buyouts to former coaches. It' really a shame.

I feel we owe Pearl nothing but I do understand the decision. What I don't understand is we were under no obligation to do a buyout considering he wasn't under contract. Pearl should donate the money received from this buyout to charity. Maybe one that supports people telling the truth!

TIFWIW, but I think former GT coach Paul Hewitt's buyout was/is $7.2 million at a school with less than half our athletic budget. Just a little perspective...

I don't know what went on behind the scenes, but it doesn't seem they can all be equally culpable. At any rate, from a financial perspective, I feel much more empathy to the assistant coaches. I assume Pearl can make money on TV or somewhere, but what are they going to do?

And, as Bassmanbruno asked above, exactly what could they have done differently? Seems they were doomed no matter what they did.

the assistants got more than several of Fulmer's assistants when they were let go...

they were without contracts so we actually could have let them all go without anything..

as far as what they can do, Forbes already has a job offer to Texas Tech
