It stirkes me as weird for him to do that. The only time CEO's offer apologies is if they're crooked. Did someone plant this idea in his head or what.I'm not knocking him I just don't quiet follow why he felt compelled to write it or what provoked it.

Fulmer is owning up to the fact that he's not getting the job done, and the buck stops with him. It's kind of refreshing to see a coach own up to his shortcomings.

yeah the people that always try and say he passes blame, well hes taking it all here, I read in a interview he said he felt like he was letting the whole state down with this season, and felt terrible about it.

He's asking the big boosters to hang in there and please keep those checks coming.

He wrote that letter to acknowledge the mistakes that were made this year. Would you rather he hide like a coward and not bring it up at all?

I don't think he said anything people weren't aware of already, unless of course your living on another planet.

According to KNS, Hamilton "suggested" that he do it. It was basically from a speech he had given the night before.

I'd say he meant what he said. There doesn't have to be an alterior motive for it.

The psychological question is different, which could be related to his coaching style. I think he is a pleaser and wants approval of others. He wants most of us to like him, support him, and for everyone to be full of cheer. Thus, he's very humbled right now.

It might also explain why he has a hard time being a disciplinarian, firing coaches, and running the ship without having to go find old assistants to do it for him.

Of course, this may be absolutely incorrect.

Well, the letter has been commented on over here on the local radio shows, and while CPF still gets his share of jabs from these guys, generally speaking the response to the letter has been pretty good, at least their opinion of why he did it...

MOst think it was a pretty stand up thing to do...regardless of whether there was any real meat in it or not, the general message of "i care enough about this university and fans to do SOMETHING" has been received pretty well...

they look at it as a guy taking ownership and responsibility....

Being in the Psych field of study, apparently that is how I posed my question. As you touched on, my question was based on the psychology behind the letter. Very intuitive .

Could be something much simpler: He's a Tennessee native, wore the Orange jersey, knows how much the school means to its fans, knows this year was rough, knows he's the man in charge and wanted to offer his thoughts, apology and assurances for the future.
If he was the former head of Enron, I'd say there might be an ulterior motive. The letter was fine with me. I applaud him for doing it.
Now, enjoy the basketball season, look forward to 2006 and move on.

See, isn't psychology easy. Just go straight to the point and sidestep all the bs. Makes life easier on everyone and we all can move on... :shades:
