If I am CBJ, here in a few weeks, I would offer Stanford's DC 800k-1mill to take over the defense at UT.

Beating Oregon, Stanford's Derek Mason 'again proved he's the best defensive coordinator in the nation' | OregonLive.com

He may have a track record with Janzek, and one could make excuses about depth, and team speed, but Janzek has looked clueless the past 3 weeks, on defense.

McNeil was one of the best safety prospects in the country. Randolph was Georgia's Gatorade player of the year, in HS. Coleman isn't slow, nor is Sutton. Sap was a safety, and we have Jalen R. Mabin sitting on the sideline.

Not saying we don't need help, but much of this is a lack of defensive coaching/scheming. And let's face it, Janzek HAD all this SPEED and DEPTH at UGA, and got fired as a DC. So did Martinez.

If CBJ says he'll hire the best staff in football...PROVE IT! Right now both the DC and the OC look totally over their heads in the SEC.

Throw similar kind of money at Baylor's OC.

Put those two coordinators together and this fanbase can believe his words. Right now, this IS NOT the best staff in the division, much less in all of College Football.

I feel like the offense looks like it'll be OK. The defense just keeps looking like it's a pretty serious rebuilding job after last year and this year. The part our fans seem to keep forgetting is we assumed 6-6. Anything more is over achieving and anything less is under achieving. If the team makes the bowl game we're right where we thought we were.

Why the hell would the Stanford coordinator come here? We have the most delusional fan base in the country.

Stanford didn't have half the speed oregon had but scheme, players in position , taking the proper angles, and fundamental tackling more than compensated for the difference. They simply out played the ducks.

Because this still is a Top 5-10 national program...that simply has been in a down cycle, that ALL teams go through! There is more to sell here, than Stanford...even though they have been doing well as of late. He'd be looking at a lot of returning talent and a No.1-2 class in the country, to work with.

I don't think the guy we have now is gonna be successful because we should be better than we are. We have several seniors starting and none of them seem to know what they are doing half the time.

Everyone on here seems to think. We can just go get whatever teams coaches. It's not that simple.

I think what the OP is trying to say is that the DC is not one of the best in the country. Jones promised the top staff in the country.....and they may work out to be. However after more pitiful showings on defense and special teams, he is betting that they are not. Especially on the defensive side of the ball. If CBJ is the CEO of UT football, he will likely have to make adjustments in this staff, to deliver on his promise.

My guess is that the coordinator positions will stay the same at least through next year. We simply must keep this recruiting class together. I look for a top tier candidate probably after that for replacement.

First of all, why would CBJ fire the best of the best? We have the best coaching staff in the galaxy, right?

Second, if he fires anyone it better be Ba-joke-ian.

Yea....and how about we go get Gruden too!!

oh wait.
This isn't a Gruden thread. This whole fanbase was underwhelmed when Dooley was hired. When CBJ said in his intial PC, that he'd hire the best staff in the country...we were all equally underwhelmed when he simply decided to bring his old staff here.

The SEC is a damn Gauntlet if not a meat grinder. It isn't the Big East where you gut it out with one or two tough opponents each year. I hope CBJ realizes it's going to take a better class of coaching...and he's going to give it to us! :)

I mean no disrespect to you at all, but have you ever been to Palo Alto? It's incredible.
Do you think most wives would rather live in California or East TN?
If your kids were going to attend where you coached, would you prefer they had a Stanford or UT degree?
Being a homer is fine, part of being a fan. But saying that these other teams can't compare because we are the great and mighty TN makes us look insane.

I know, what I'm saying, is that Stanford's DC has no reason at all to leave and come here....

:good!:

That makes about as much sense as saying I don't understand why I'm not a millionaire because I work just as hard if not harder than most millionaires.

I don't consider it that great, unless you like 90 minute commutes, sky high taxes, municipal bankrupcies, rampant diseases and anarchy.

But the gay bay is much better than LA. From Santa Barbara to Pismo Beach and San Diego are the real sweet spots in the state.
