VolNation,

I have been spouting alpha-ball all week and yesterday you got to see it. The very crew i called out (DeShields, Graves and Cooper) all performed, lead and showed the masses why they were picked to place so high.

Someone listened and someone pulled these young warriors aside and gave them the words and prodding they needed to get back to the mind-set of an Alpha.

Was it Holly?
it may have been... it may have been Kyra.

Coaches don't coach in blowout wins, players perform....Coaches win close games wherein their moves and call affect the outcome. So i can't give this one to you Holly (yet).

+++++++++++++++

I am proud of you DD.I don't know if someone gave you permission to fail or if you took it upon yourself, but it happened. And it has to happen for the next few games. You will have to continue to dig deep inside of you and find that reason to perform, and then, not let anyone dictate your output. Give yourself "permission to fail, so you will have the door to succeed". . . Basha, you came out in beast-mode and stayed there the entire game. you was pushing your way around and going through anyone in your path... Coop must have heard me too. She was making good decisions, not forcing things and attacking the rim at all cost. and all of your were passing better.

You 3 set the tone more than any component of this team. Coaching included. And it would be that way no matter who was coaching. understand though, If it was me and you 3 went to shutdown mode, the only difference would be that I wouldn't have let you get away with it this Ca-ca without putting you back in your place sooner.

Its not about jerking you around and yelling at you... it's about expectations, girls. . . Mine and yours...All of you have jobs to do and if one doesn't do it, it may still get done, two and it is exponentially harder to accomplish. All 3 and you see what happened. So don't disappear for even one game. And if I as a coach don't push the right buttons, it is on me.

Dig deep my Lady Volunteers. And finish this season like it should have gone in the first place. I will be on the warpath from this end and as long as you need me to be.

Coaching Staff, i hope this last game stays in you mind. You whip a quarter horse to make it run faster and perform... You reign in and control the releases when you have stallions.... YOU, HAVE STALLIONS!

The SEC tourney is now upon you all... Play with all of your passion, , , Take calculated risks, and, WIN.

love my Girls,
Coach Jumper

Realistically, how far can the team go this year?

remember the pre-season poll.... there are those who think this team, when ran well, is a top four in the country.

I KNOW this to be true, if the coaching can keep up with the task of managing, inspiring and corralling these girls.

That would be great if we could get to the Final Four.

Does anyone else find these posts bizarre, presumptuous, patronizing, weird? Self-appointed oracle of women's basketball with videos of 6th graders as creds? As disappointed as I am with the current coaching staff, getting pointers from VN forums - written as if the staff is really looking here for guidance and direction - seems more than a stretch to me. Maybe it's just me.

great post Coach Jumper,do you coach somewhere ?

When i moved to knoxville in 2013 it was to get closer to my aging parents and to try to finish a book that i have been working on, on coaching the female basketball athlete.

I began with a 16u exposure team in 2013, but decided to take a step back the next year and continue a book on coaching methods, drills, explanations of differences between gender tenancies and "instructional videos".

it is a very unfamiliar arena, writing a book. And there seems to be great interest but minimal help. Coupled with a full time job, I am not sure how it can get done. I have communicated with the AD dept of UT to see if I can get intern-type help (video, writing, etc). But as of yet, to no avail.

I am rethinking this summer now, as I am 56 and do not want to lose muscle-tone and the good cardio I possess. I am a demonstrating coach, so i have to be in shape to demonstrate moves. So sitting and pick-and-pecking a keyboard is not the answer.

I am looking for a team to work with now.

If you know anything about the female athlete, you know they learn most of their life-long tendencies in MS. by the 8th grade, most girls have their personality for life.

The reason i put the video on the page is for example, not to show off. . . If i can get the ball and personnel movement, givengo's, proper defensive posturing, close-outs on dribble pickups,etc... from a group of 6th graders.... Surely it can be done with this UT team. If watching a bunch of 6th grade girls play this way can in any way inspire my chosen collegiate program, i will post every game i can go back and find.

So Coach Jumper, how can the Lady Vols win the SEC tourney? What do they need to do?

this team's performance directly correlates with the play, composure and mental status of its Alpha players (Graves, Cooper, DD, Jackson)... 1) First and foremost is to figure out who the magical voice was that sat with or worked-out with these girls listed and turned their immediate mental-obstacles away and make sure they are around to quell any further meltdowns. . .2) Design an offense to combat zone by using cutters across the top-center of the key, or by penetrating and kicking out to shooters.. 3) Quit publicly berating and censoring shots so the girls will not be scared to shoot the open looks. right now they are so afraid of being publicly reprimanded for a shot that they can't confidently shoot the open shot... 4) Get HW a quick two technicals so we can see how the team plays for Kyra. (Dean, not alpha enough to HC... Jolette, on her way to retiring... Kyra-learned directly under Pat Summit... 5) hire the alpha needed to quell these mental outbursts that are controlling every aspect of the game these girls are playing... 6) Use Jackson and Dunbar much more.

What ????
#4 Get Holly 2 quick T's so we can see how the team plays without her ?
Why not just have her not show up ?
Don't know why we would give the opposition free points via free throws for an experiment.
Also, doesn't it seem a bit risky to experiment in the Sec tournament ?
Now that the girls know what they need to do to win, does that mean it's their fault if they lose the next game or the one after that ?
Just curious.

Words of wisdom for the Lady Vols.

Thanks, coach Jumper!

the #4 thing is kind of being facetious... However, We didn't know how HW would handle it until she was thrust into the limelight. . . We won't know how the rest of the staff would perform until they have the same type of opportunity
