Coach Martin Releases Volume VI of his Newsletter

I wonder if Martin will catch the same grief around here for producing a newsletter that Swiperboy gets for making rap videos "instead" of working on his game. That said, I like the newsletter, didn't know about it, and appreciate the post.

I don't see how the two are remotely comparable. Martin is using this as fan outreach, which is part of his job. Woolridge rapping has nothing to do with his playing basketball.

I like it. I also love the pictures at the bottom showing how they get after it in practice, Coach Martin included. I hope everyone gets to see the same thing I saw Coach do at MSU, which is improve that program every single year. He's going to have a tough start without having one single proven player this year. I think he instills a toughness in them that will get us a few more wins than anyone expected.

People saying Woolridge should not pursue his music career, because it means he's off the court, is asinine.

I guess I should have said nothing and waited.

My immediate reactions after opening the newsletter were 1) this is cool and 2) somebody is going to complain that he shouldn't be spending his time on this.

So, I posted early.

awesome, really like the time and effort put into this. if he puts that kind of time and effort in coaching and developing players, we have to be pretty good.

There was another thread on these newsletters when they first started a few months ago. This one is 10x better than any other, but I still wish Cuonzo would have contributed a lot more. That little intro isn't enough to call this "Martin's newsletter" IMO.

great reading. ccm is going to be all right. we need to get behind this team and show our loyal support. this team will work hard and, yes will be lucky to break out even this year, but i feel like i will really like what they do.

What are you smoking? Other than typing up that intro and probably giving a blanket yay or nay before it goes out CCM likely contributed nothing to this actual newsletter. Trust me he has people for that.

Secondly this ties in directly to CCM's job on and off the court.

Recording music worth listening to requires lots of time in studio, which is not being spent in a gym. Luckily Swiperboy was obviously not spending nearly as much time as people might think he was. That or he just really sucks.

It would be one thing if he was playing at a high level and contributing on the court. Honestly up to now he has contributed nothing to the VOLS but a few really corny videos.

Comparing a newletter CCM "endorses" and the whole swiperboy thing is such a stretch Ifeel comfortable saying I don't think any but the most hardcore haters would even go down that road.

Great Newsletter and it got me fired up for basketball season. Realistically, I am not expecting a whole lot (.500 season at best) With that said , that's why they play the games. Anything can happen. If we get Stokes in here, next season will be alot better.

I probably did overestimate how much of the newsletter Martin actually produces himself, but I did expect someone to flip out over it. I guess that hasn't happened yet.

I don't disagree that Woolridge has not done a whole lot on the court. But, I still think it's ridiculous to expect him to not pursue the student side of being a student-athlete.

I love this coach.
Hoping he's an over-achiever in his first season.
