hosting unofficial visitors during August and getting some face time with 2012 prospects instead of being in China with a team of college kids.

It is a great honor and, in another year would be fine, but the timing is unfortunate heading into Coach Martin's first early signing period.

Guess it couldn't be helped as he was obligated before taking the Tennessee job.

However, it won't help with recruiting. Most of these high school kids don't even know there is a World University Games.

I doubt it's of significant consequence. I'm sure he told all of his prospects that he would be doing this long ago. I bet more recruits know about these games than not.

This sounds familiar.. like I've read some of these posts before with a previous coach.

I'm convinced that one of the reasons Pearl got sloppy with recruiting juniors that year was that he realized he had to cram two recruiting summers into one, since he'd be out of the country much of the next summer.

Unless he were coaching a team of 17 year old's on an overseas tour, it can't help you to have your head man out of the country at the height of recruiting season.

Sooo, you are saying that (Purdue)Painter and (Butler)Stevens have lost some recruiting by doing this....I think not!

and 4, 4 stars committed for 2013 already. He's also been recruiting his current targets for at least four years.

Stevens is coming of back-to-back Final 4s and with 4 straight NCAAs to sell and has had 4 years to build relationships with recruits for Butler.

Cuonzo is trying to patch up relationships with 2012 kids who were recruited by the previous staff or create relationships with kids he didn't start recruiting until April. Every minute between now and the early signing period counts.

If Cuonzo is in either of those positions in 4 years, then, taking a month off in the summer might be less of an issue.

May turn out to be fine, but timing of taking a month out of his first full recruiting calendar is unfortunate.

Maybe Cuonzo will learn a thing or two being surrounded by such quality coaching.

You must not be familiar with his coaching background.

Didn't take his post a a slight on Martin. Jay Wright used a set 'Nova ran all the time last season from being around other coaches while coaching international ball.

Regardless of Martin's background it will be a great chance for him to grow as a coach and learn some things.

What do you expect them to say???? I doubt any of those players would say anything negative about their coach regardless of the ability of the coach!!!

They don't have to say anything at all. The fact that it is players from our two biggest rivals speaks volumes.
