He still hasn't come on yet, but they just said, "stay tuned to see how Butch Jones is using the Miami Heat to motivate his Tennessee team."

Really nice to see some Tennessee highlights from last season on ESPN. :p
Really the same thing C Jones has been saying all along. When your backs against the wall like the Heat was is game 6 you got to keep pushing ahead. That sort of thing. GBO

talked about the miami heat game...how he like to teach the vols mental toughness and to never give up...talked about the old players coming in and talking to the team...said manning was in knoxville for a few days this week...said hes gonna work on teaching the vols to get back to playing winning football and the process of it...that he's gonna stay focused on recruiting...and that we have alot of energy... Go Vols!!

It couldn't have been more than a 2-3 minute interview. When asked about what he could take from the Miami Heat's NBA championship victory, he said, "Resilience, mental toughness and a never-say-die attitude." He also touched on the outreach program to former players. When asked point-blank what would qualify as a successful inaugural season, he emphasized, in essence, the "brick-by-brick" metaphor without directly invoking its usage. He pointed to the obvious need for laying a foundation, instilling a winning mindset and attitude, and focusing on the "process." In time, wins will be a natural byproduct of that attention to mastering detail.

Not much substance in this interview, but it's always good to get the brand out there and remind people who we are. Struck me as very media-savvy of someone to leverage Butch's friendship with the Heat coach and Peyton's recent visit into something topical. But it was basically just an excuse to get us some exposure -- and there's nothing wrong with that.

Ultimately they were simply playing off of Butch's friendship with Miami's head coach and his presence at Game 7 of the NBA Championship as a lead-in to their all too brief interview, which, in part, focused on what general motivational or leadership principles could be drawn that would be applicable to Butch's inaugural season at Tennessee.
