ok you guys all think im dumb for putting kirk ferentz on my list and iowa is garbage? they have the second longest winning streak in the country. he beats sec schools every year with half the talent. He has been offered to coach the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, the oakland raiders and i know there have been more. And you guys act like im the only one saying it well im pretty sure everyone at espn thinks the same thing. oh and for the northwestern comment hahahahah you are funny dude but i dont see northwestern going and pounding schools like florida, lsu, and south carolina every year

I think putting a guy who, after 10 years, has never had the best team in his conference (he has tied twice) and has never finished in the top 5 ahead of guys that regularly win their respective conferences, consistently finish in the top 5, and occasionally finish in the top 1, is errant.

Coaches are measured by their accomplishments, and recruiting lesser teams and leading them to a string of Outback and Alamo bowls, with 1 BCS bid and a few losing seasons sprinkled in, just doesn't equal top 5. We just fired a coach with better credentials than that.

Pete Carroll is not the best coach in college football. In recruiting, he may edge out Saban and Meyer but the guy goofs up too many winnable games! Pete Carroll has had the most talented teams so far this decade and managed to find himself "outside-looking-in" too many times.

The best coaches in college football can be found here in the SEC:
The top two coaches are Meyer and Saban. It doesn't which is ranked first or second.

Small gap:
Pete Carroll.

Slightly larger gap in the quality:
M. Brown.
B. Stoops.

A coach who wouldn't make my top 10:
Tressell (sp.)

A list of coaches who wouldn't make my top 20:
Les Miles.
Steve Sarkisian

Ok look, the way you said this makes me laugh. Like over the past 8 years he has managed to put the most kids in the NFL, and create the most Head coaches.. The first year he was there he went 6-6 then from then on 11-2 12-1 13-0 and so on...

He has Won 2 NC, his record as a HC is 91-16.. thats like an 83% W/L ratio...

He is going to have Back to Back #1 defenses (after losing so many players - 4 linebackers (3 in top 2 rounds, 1 in 4th) 1 Corner (Drafted), 1 Safety (Drafted), 2 DL (Drafted) -- those were just the ones drafted.

He has an NCAA record for 7 consecutive BCS bowls.

He doesn't have to run a "Spread" or "Gimmick" Offense to win games.

And for those of you who think wow his "offense is bad this year" .. REMEMBER this is a Freshman QB, with a brand new OC.

Richt is the next Fulmer. Enough said. My own revised version of that list:

1) Pete Carroll
2) Nick Saban
3) Urban Meyer
4) Mack Brown
5) Chris Petersen

Honorable mention (no particular order): Joe Paterno, Jim Tressel, Bob Stoops, Brian Kelly, Frank Beamer

Up and coming coaches (no particular order): Lane Kiffin, Turner Gill, Steve Sarkisian, Bronco Medenhall, Paul Johnson

Nowhere on the radar screen: Les Miles, Rich Rodriguez, Charlie Weis, Butch Davis, Bill Stewart

Just my two cents. GO VOLS!!!

Rich Rodriguez is really good, and I still think Davis is, too. I don't expect turning around UNC to be an easy process.

I disagree. Butch Davis is not that good of a coach in the present day, although he had great success at Miami. Rich Rodriguez manages to lose to 1 AA teams that they should never have had any trouble with in the first place. Nuff said on that.

Urban Meyer
Mack Brown
Pete Carrol
Bob Stoops
Nick Saban

They all recruit well, have top 10 teams fairly regularly, play and win NCG, and all face fairly tough schedules in conference, and out. JMHO.

If Ferentz has been good for so long then he should no long have to beat teams with half the talent - talent would come to him. And show me where he got "offered" by those NFL teams - rather than asked to come interview for the position.

Even as a gator fan, I will say Carroll, Saban, and Meyer in any order is very justifiable based on what they have accomplished. However, the young guns to look out for are definitely Chris Peterson, Brian Kelly, and Steve Sarkasian they are accomplishing amazing things given the level of talent they have.

until this season ferentz regurally topped every list of the most overpaid coaches in the country. they'll go lose to northwestern or minnesota or something eventually and go back to the middle of the big-10.

I'm 6'4", about 210. You must be talking to the other guys.

I don't know how big pj is, but I've always pictured Bruno as being built like Jerome Bettis.

2. Kirk Ferentz

Rich Rod turned an awful program at WVU into a title contender and he's doing the same thing at Michigan. Which 1-AA team did he lose to? And please don't say Appalachian State.

Also, Davis won 8 games at UNC last year, and certainly has them moving in the right direction. You don't build teams like he did at Miami without being an outstanding coach. Way to early to say he isn't good anymore.

Says the fan of the team who has spent the last 10 years pretending they were rebuilding when really they just have a useless, mediocre team in a division with 3 far superior programs. As soon as Kiffin gets UT's talent level up, South Carolina might as well just stop trying.

Chris Petersen has far superior talent to any team in their conference. It isn't surprising they destroy all the WAC trash.

I only see one superior program.....and it aint UT. By the way. Whats wrong with UT's talent level? If you are a superior program seems like you would have superior talent. OH....I see....Dreaming. Its amusing to me that you are putting that much faith into a coach that cant make an easy QB change to help his team.
