"We own Memphis" challenge - The University of Alabama announced its first commitment for the 2010 class today. Keiwone Malone, from Mitchell High School in Memphis announced he will sign with the U of Ala in 2010. Malone is a wide receiver, listed in Scout's top 100 in the nation. Nice quiet touch, Nick.

A little early to count your chickens isn't it?

You know just as well as the rest of us that this means nothing right now. Come on now, your smarter then that.

No - just a commitment, which I realize is not binding. Thought the timing was neat, though. I'm sure LT will work on him over the coming months.

As will many other schools, who knows where these kids will end up going these days.

So true - Some were very worried about Trent Richardson and his really early commitment, then taking all five visits. Actually, I felt the OL commitments were more important - a good offensive line can make the slightly better than average running back a star. But seems he was always strong for Bama - had called another recruit (QB) to come to his announcement. Kids learn to play the game early these days.

Im actually not worried about this.. We're about to start getting some guys out of Cali and Louisiana once this staff has some time to work..

I consider Memphis a city in Mississippi anyway.. they dont talk like Tennesseeans

Even Bear Bryant had enough sense not to challenge Tennessee and showed respect. Nobody has feared or respected this program in the last 20 years. Yesterday was the new beginning of the real challenge in restoring this program's prestige.

You shouldn't worry about it. Tennessee has signed a lot of talent over the years from Alabama, and vice-versa. You guys generally recruit much better from other areas than most SEC schools, and I see that continuing with the background of LK and others on the staff. I think they will do well, but LK seems to like to "fire up the alumni" rather publicly, which some take exception to, but - really not a big deal.

I am "old school" and remember when AL / TN was the high point of the season. No excuses if you lost, and no "trash talk" if you won. You had just defeated a respected opponent. My first game to see as a kid was AL-TN at Legion Field - 1950 or 51 - Memory isn't what it once was, but I do remember the excitement.

It is a great rivalry.

Always number 1, in my book.

True. Timing was great. It is nice of Saban to put a target on this kid's back. Now schools have a year to work on him and say they swiped one from Bama.

my favorite game, still.

UT/Florida just doesn't have the tradition IMO.
