I'll try and be concise.
How would you rate coaches in terms of stars for coaching and recruiting?
Would you rather have a good recruiter or a good developer/coach?

Recruiting. Coaching

The primary purpose of a coach is to help the player improve their game and get better on the field. IMO, that should be the first criteria because if players aren't being developed recruiting will not be sustainable. Once it is established that a coach can coach then they have to have a personality and a tenacity for recruiting. Some are better than others, but that is why they are given territories to recruit and don't just recruit their position. And in reality, recruiting is so much of a team effort from the behind the scenes folks, to the in-home/person recruiters, to the message board posters getting AI love letters out on the social medias. Recruiting takes a village.

Need both. Today must be able to recruit and coach. Can't have any wasted paychecks.

How about both? Lmao I mean it drives me insane the people that debate for one or the other. Bottom line is you are NOT winning a national championship without a Top 10 roster at least. Also you aren’t winning a championship with just a “recruiter coach”. Answer is both combined

I would say that today a head coach needs to be like a CEO.

He's the face of the program and has to be a closer when it comes to recruiting and know something about coaching; however, he needs to hire people to run the divisions of the team (Offense & Defense) and then the subsidiaries under the offensive and defensive coordinators (Off line, Def line, QB's receivers and then so on and so forth).

You have to have faith in those you hire and not be suspicious that any of them are coming for your job.

Just my opinion as I have never been a head coach anywhere.

We will see after this season. We have a lot of holes to fill and I think we will see Thant we a a really good group of coaches. I am not that worried about the QB coach or the OC as long as Heupel is our Head Coach. The position coaches seem to be much better than we have had at Tennessee in a number of years. The biggest coaching challenges this Fall will be the OL, LBs, and DBs. I believe we will be just fine in all areas.

You need a good recruiter and a great coach! Heupel is this! Fulmer was a great recruiter and an adequate coach, and won a NC. If we hang on to Heupel, the sky is the limit.

You don't want bad or mediocre in either category in this day and age, even if they are "very good" in the the other category. Either combo of good/very good is acceptable though.
